The reason not to write the data while the engine is running is because the fuelling lookups would get scrambled as there would be FF FF FF FF instead of the lookup data in the time between the erase cycle and the new data was loaded down the serial port.

There appear to be mixed results of firing COP coils from the EDIS module. Some seem to work ok, others have startup problems. An alternative is to use two EDIS modules "in parallel" driving two COPs each.

The Megasquirt fuel pump relay is doing the same function - if the engine stalls the fuel pump cuts out. I would take a power wire from the fuel pump relay and run you coil and other items from it.
You might also want to install an inertia (mercury) switch if you don't have one already so that the ...

The pump is an electric motor, so if you provide it 12 volts and it draws 5 amps then depending on the efficiency a percentage of that power will end up heating the windings on the motor which are fuel cooled - hence the fuel heats up.
So if the pump is working hard to pump lots of fuel (more than ...

Check with your supplier before you buy and/or switch to a supplier familiar with these fuels.

If they don't _think_ it supports methanol/ethanol or do not know what they are talking about then do not buy.

Any reason not to let Megasquirt control your idle ? And try wiring direct into the tacho ?

If those are the only two functions you need from the old ECU that is.

There is an alternate simpler way of doing this that Joethemechanic has been trying out with improved results.

I'm using a pair of 50mm throttles on my 3.5 V8 (because that's what I had from two Sierra pinto EFI manifolds) and while it works well, they are actually too big. That equates to the same area as one 70mm.

To use EDIS you MUST use a 36-1 wheel. The EDIS module will not work with any other wheel pattern.

The GM DIS like HEI7 will run at base timing (e.g. 10BTDC) when in limp mode. This would get you home if something went wrong but the car would run very badly and have no power.

You need an ECU to control either system.

Stupid question for the assembly coders. I code in C on embedded linux systems here at work. Debugging is pretty easy with a BDM tool or just using "printk()'s" but I don't understand how you guys debug the MS code. You can't really output any debug messages and there's no BDM tool or anything like ...
