Re: EDIS control

The lowered cr does change the timing but not in a way that it's not even running. Post your sparkmap not the cfg.

Re: EDIS control

Did you set all the right jumpers? http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm
Try running the engine without the saw signal, pin #3. It should run in limp home mode, 10deg btdc.

Re: EDIS pin2 pulse?

Pin #2 and #11 should both produce a 12v pulse signal. When your gas relay was pulsed by the neg coil side then a 12v pulse won't work. Usally there's a big input resistor to lower the voltage comming from the coil neg. You can by pass it with a lower value.
For the tacho to work with either pin 2 ...

Re: vulnerable MAX232 chip, any possible improvement?

The max232 is a very robust chip. I once accidently powered it with 12v instead of 5v without breaking it. Seems after five failures that something else is zapping your chip. Maybe a bad or no ground at the serial port?

Re: PWM 3wire IAC Questions

Check, with an ohm meter if you have continuity between +12v of the valve to the "D" of Q3. If nothing is attached to the drain (D) then you'll see no signal.
Also measure the valve connections if you have the right pins.
To check out the circuit you can temporarly substitude the valve for a couple ...

Re: PWM 3wire IAC Questions

No, the otherside should show a mirrored wave form of the first one. Notice the little inverted wave form at the gate of the second powerfet. Trace the signal back to the gates of both power fets, they should be exact mirrors of each other.

Re: Turbo FSI engine

You also have to control the high pressure injection pump (driven by the cam shaft) and the pwm controlled fuel pump. MS can't control both so you better mod the engine to something simple as port injection....

The diode is for protecting the switching transistor. Be sure that the kathode side, indicated with a band, is on the +12v side. The valve is then connected parallel to this diode. It's the same setup as with the fuelpump relay...

idle valve polarity?

The polarity isn't important. It's just a coil that gets energized rotating a valve against a spring. If it works in the opposite direction just switch the wires.

single wire clt sender or m14 x 1.5 alternative

No need to change your oem sensor, MS can use it. Only thing you have to figure out is the resistance/temp curve. It's prob. a bosch sensor so it should be no problem.

Don't know about that, but I have some self study info about tdi diesel engines. If you're interested I can mail them to you.

VDO Tach driving - 1990 16V VW Corrado

I believe that circuit was only to isolate the ignition signals. What you can do, and it is a bit of work, is modify your tacho. Usally al it takes is to bypass the high ohm resistor at the input. I've done this with my own tacho (golf II) and it works flawless. Use pin2 or pin11 from the edis ...
