Re: fuel line setup, please judge

Seems like an awful lot of trouble and modification to what is otherwise a bolt-on "get another one from salvage" if you need it part. Wouldn't it be easier to fit your fuel pressure regulator somewhere after the fuel filter and run a return line from there... and run the fuel rail "returnless" as ...

Re: how does blended alpha-n work

While we're talking Alpha-N... I was wondering the last time I was tuning, before my car broke a few weeks ago...

When you try to use VE analyzer with Alpha-N... does it work properly? Or does VE Analyzer try to look at the actual MAP signal rather than the faked value? I know the little charts on ...

Re: alpa-n question

You've got to retune your VE table after you go Alpha-N, or anytime you make changes to the Alpha-N TPS table.

To get it to idle, you need to set whatever cell(s) in the VE table correspond to ACTUAL RPM, and FAKE MAP to the value that is appropriate for idle. So, it sounds like you need to make ...

Re: Idle way too high

Vacuum leak? Throttle body sized too large for the application?

You're simply getting too much air somewhere, somehow. The only way you'll get the idle speed down is to introduce less air.

You can run without that capacitor. I wouldn't make a special trip anywhere just to get one. Maybe just plan on getting one the next time you are out.

Re: Accidently reversed d11*Fried trace!*

You need to look at the wiring diagram and point-to-point wire anything that should be connected to the component with the mangled through-hole.

Double-check polarity on everything. You probably won't get away with too many more mistakes like that!

Re: Backfire on decel

I found that mine backfired (not bad, just little pops in-between the usual "burble") on decel when I had it set really lean in the decel area of the VE table. When I had it set at or near stoich, it didn't backfire.

My theory is that with it lean, there's not enough fuel to burn, but every now and ...

Re: TPS range too small

You're talking about the Alpha-N TPS map, not the TPS itself. I've been playing with this recently.

Yes you can set the table up so that at low RPM you have more resolution at small throttle openings.

I set mine so that the first 10% of throttle gives "60 kPa". With my VE table set linlearly from ...

Thanks for clearing that up! Alpha-N seems to be one of those things with very limited documentation in the manual.

Re: TPS range too small

Mine is 178-865.

But, yours doesn't sound unusable. You've got 1% resolution.

As long as you set the Alpha-N TPS table to give you the resolution you need at low TPS and low RPM, I think it should work.

Haven't been able to get anyone to confirm, but I believe the TPS table interpolates date just ...

Thanks, Lance. That makes perfect sense. I figured it was some "engineer-speak".

No hints on whether Alpha-N affects the timing map or not?

Alpha-N Questions

First... what the heck does "Alpha-N" stand for, anyway?

Okay, so I started using Alpha-N below 2000 rpm to get better control of the idle on my engine because it has a VERY peaky MAP signal. Worked like a charm, allowed me to tune the low rpm areas for some civility for things like idling around ...

Re: Coolant Sensor Necessary?

Try searching the forum for something like "air cooled VW engine temp sensor". Whatever they do should work for you.

Or you could do as mentioned above, fit a fixed resistor in place of the sensor and set MS up to ignore coolant temp. (no cold-start or warm-up, no fuel adjustments on over-temp, no ...

Re: Acceleration Wizard question

The bar graph is telling you the TPS rate of change at any given moment. The TPS signal shouldn't have a lot of noise on it. If it did for some reason, that noise might trigger as a false "rate of change". I've not seen that on TPS, more on MAP... the normal MAP fluctuations WILL show up as a rate ...

Re: Which British car sensors will work ?

I'd bet that most of your Vauxhall sensors are "standard GM" sensors.

You can map your own temp sensors, it's no big deal. I'm using a generic VDO coolant temp and a GM intake temp sensor.

Any TPS will work, that's a non-issue. And O2 sensors should all be standard as far as I know.

Re: Trigger wheel gap EDIS

As long as the harmonic balancer has no cut-outs in it (like your toothed wheel does), it shouldn't interfere.

A photo of your balancer and toothed wheel would be very valuable here... along with some idea of where you intend to position the sensor. But, as long as the sensor is centered on the ...

Re: Trigger wheel gap EDIS

It's not real finicky. My gap is a solid 2-3mm and it's never given me any trouble. You're edging up near 4mm, though... that might be pushing it. I think 1-2mm is a good target.

Re: Diferents AFR Reading between the LC-1 gauge and Megatune

Check your grounding. Everything should have an individual ground wire and go to the same grounding point, preferably on the engine block.

If you have the MS and the LC1 grounded at different points, the difference in "ground" potential can be a volt or more, that's likely what's throwing off your ...
