neat junction boxes for home-brewed harnesses

I'm sure we've all seen J-boxes from various vendors. I stumbled across this one today and decided to share. Prices seem to be a little lower than some other places (although they show the quantity-discount as the teaser price), and these boxes have built-in terminal strips (which I haven't seen ...

Re: Remote TPS?

I see the distinction in your description. Sounds like the APPS is the driver-demand signal to the ECU, then the TPS is the feedback to teh ECU that the drive-by-wire is on target?

But what is the difference between the TPS in the TB and the APPS as far as operation? What is the signal type from ...

Re: differnt relay board's

I'm more in favor of relays (or some type of mid-harness terminal strip) for a street car or for an EFI or MS beginner. I have zero experience with the MS relay board but have a ton of relay board expereince from my last job. Picture a relay board about 11x17 with over 20 relays, mounted in custom ...

Re: Problems getting it to start & idle

Based on what I've read, some engines do prefer richness for a good idle -- so don't be surprised if 13.5-14.0 is too lean. And remember, a lean misfire will cause the WB to read rich due to unburned fuel from teh misfire.

Re: cam sensor only setup for Ford 302 ?

Why not just use an EEC-IV dizzy from a 5.0 engine? They have a bad rep for poor reliability of the TFI ignition module, but it became remote-mounted on trucks and vans. Either way, you’re looking at installing a Hall sensor in the dizzy, the EEC-IV dizzy already has one in it.

Re: Manifold air temp for draw through turbo

Dodge Magnum engines of 92-200? use a small IAT that I believe is 1/8" NPT. There are 2 different types used over the years, you'll have to research them a bit more regarding the thread and the resistance curve. Price is a LOT better than the previous one posted.

Re: Low pressure pump needed for TBI

If it ends up that you've blown the gasket in that regulator, and if you don't want to risk it again, you could gut the TBI regulator and use an external regulator in the return line. Mallory makes a $100 version, 1 for high-pressure port EFI and another lower one that's suitable for TBI. They are ...

Re: Manifold air temp for draw through turbo

For the rest of the folks reading at home (Matt and Lambo already know what I'm going to say):
It is not 'permissible' to use a charge-air cooler with a draw-thru system. If the cooler does its job, it will cool the charge enough that fuel drops out of suspension, especially as it pings on all teh ...

Re: Can a Ford flex fuel sensor be used?

I am making the assumption that either the GM or the Ford sensor will be taking a 5 or 12v input and giving a proportional voltage output. In that regard, if you can get them cheaply at the junkyard, you could experiment. The sensors might be opposite of each other electrically.

Connect some wires ...

Re: Camshaft selection

Also keep in mind that for turbo (or any other force-fed application) that you want minimal valve overlap so that you don't push some of your intake charge right into the exh manifold. For force-fed engines the 'stock' camshaft is generally a good choice.

Ross Machine Racing has the drillbit and cheap bulk fuel rail.

I found a quasi-similar pilot-tipped counterbore bit at McMaster.com for about $35, I don't remember the size but I do remember that it was metric.

Re: Throttle Body Question (street/strip 347sbf)

You're gonna need a hoodscoop, friend!

FWIW, I think those injector bungs are in a bad location, at least for a street car spending any time at lower RPM. The injector should be aimed more vertically and point down the runner, preferably into the intake port, and ideally at the intake valve ...

Re: Throttle Body Question (street/strip 347sbf)

The cam that's in it now (.634"/.634", 248/266@.050") would idle contentedly at 850rpm...but the springs build heat fast when you've got 750lbs over the nose lol. The new cam is a bit larger (.704"/.672", 260/268@.050")...

I was right, those cams @.050" are comparable to what I have @.000"! :lol ...

Based on your updated info, you’re in a better position than I had presumed.

For the amount of work you have done to your car, I’d recommend you head down the port-EFI path ILO TB EFI. Nothing wrong with TB, but I’m thinking for the level of work you’ve already done and the performance you ...

Re: Throttle Body Question (street/strip 347sbf)

So, my predicament is that I'm looking to switch to fuel injection. This particular 700 Holley is on its last leg, and rather than drop $800+ on a good custom carb, I go I'm really considering a throttle body injection, as I'm on a strict budget, and need to get the car running again ASAP ...

Re: Injector firing order options

Hey Dustbull –
Good to see another Mopar guy embracing lower-buck EFI!

If you’re looking for a cheap injector wiring harness, look at Cadillac Northstar and Olds Aurora 4.0 V8 around the mid-late 90s (give or take).

The harness contains only the injectors + 1 other sensor, it lays right on ...

Re: Port Injector Bung Mount Configuration

Good info from Matt (as usual).

To minimize issues with shooting almost directly at the other wall of the manifold runner, I’ll recommend using a wide-pattern injector, probably a disc-style, that atomizes the fuel more. You don’t want a pencil-stream bouncing off the opposing wall.

Here's a ...

Check RockAuto.com – there are a handful of reman units there.
Check Fordfuelinjection.com to see if there are any other ECUs that ...

To get a 4-barrel manifold converted is reportedly $3-400. For a SBC I think there will be ready-made manifolds available, and fuel rails, too.

Visit Summitracing and see what they have available.

There's an EFI tunign section on Turbomustangs.com, and surely someone there can help you with MS stuff.

I realize this is the MS board, but there's such a variety of cars here. Turbomustangs is, well, exactly what it's called. :D
