Re: IAT Okay or Not?

The engine is in a beck spyder so, there is no seperation between the engine compartment and the underneath as in a bug. I recently created an air intake box to suck outside air into the fan for cooling. I am considering whether or not I need to duct the throttle body intakes into the air box too ...

IAT Okay or Not?

My aircooled VW type one is runnning great but I noticed the IAT is up around 115 deg. farenheit. I am measuring the temperature right as the air enters one pair of throttle bodies not in the manifold. I just don't know if this is high or not. Being aircooled, I am concerned that the air in the ...

Re: wideband o2 control authority

Basically, your O2 sensor is getting a reading that is way out of whack with the desired target in the particular AFR table entry or entries you are operating in. The ECU tries to adjust the pulsewidth to bring the actual reading closer to the desired target. The amount that the ECU will adjust ...

Devastator,
Is that the same as the injector delay percentage? That is all I found looking for an offsett parameter?

Re: When is it time for alpha-n or blended alpha-n?

Lance,
Thanks for the great information. I guess what I have is perhaps a step below what you describe in your first paragraph. There is a difference in MAP between part throttle and full throttle at low RPMs - just not much. What I end up with is the difference between say 95kpa and 99kpa. It just ...

Re: Severe lean spikes on the dyno.

You are going from accel enrich to decel and back and forth. It may be that the sensitivity of the TPS is too much. In accel enrichment there is a setting called TPSdot that you can set higher to lower the sensitivity. I had to set mine as high as 30 to stop inadvertant accel/decel. The manual says ...

Things I have learned for the newbies (like myself)

Aircooled VW flat four
2276 cc
Twin dual throat throttle bodies
EDIS
MSII ver.357

Getting there and enjoying the process although it can be frustrating at times. The cool part is that I know more about EFI and tuning then I ever imagined I would. In comparison to some of the more experienced ...

When is it time for alpha-n or blended alpha-n?

I have an aircooled flat 4 vw engine with dual throttle bodies and a cam with a bit of an overlap. This results in some high map readings at idle and throughout much of the operating range. I have been tuning speed density and have had some success although, there is more to go. Just wondering at ...

Help with IAT Please!

MSII Ver. 357. Using relay board and GM IAT sensor. Noticed my reading is always stuck at 70 deg. no matter what. Connected the stim and the readings vary with the pot adjustment so it is not the ECU. Disconnected the two wires from the sensor where they connect at the relay board and I get the ...

Re: Help with missfire - MSQ attached

Iammy,
I simply got 1.5" PCV pipe from Home Depot, glued pvc end caps on it and drilled/tapped the endcaps for brass fittings to accomodate the vacuum line at each end. I placed the tube in line with the single vacuum hose running to the ECU. In my installation the tube is only about 12" from the ...

Steamer,
GM CLT NOT a GM IAT? Works well? Any reprogramming of the resistance ranges?
Thanks,

GM IAT as CLT for aircooled VW?

Anyone do this? MSII ver. 357 with relay board. My Cylinder head temp sensor would not move fast enough and I could not get it to register in the proper range so I figured I would use a GM IAT sensor mounted in the hot airflow from the cylinder head. Unfortunately, it registers wrong (hoping I can ...

Re: Help with missfire - MSQ attached

Matt,
You're a genius! I made the vacuum canister as you described and not only did it stop the MAP spiking it also lowered my overall MAP reading so that part throttle at low RPM does not generate a 100 kPa MAP reading. This gets my hopes up that I will be able to stick with speed density tuning ...

Re: Help with missfire - MSQ attached

Thanks Matt,
This engine is a type1 vw aircooled engine with dual throttle bodies and 2 short intake manifolds. I am getting the map signal by combining manifold vacuum from all four seperate runners. Don't now of any better source. Is there a way to dampen the vacuum signal? Also, I have an idle ...

Help with missfire - MSQ attached

accelerating slowly (still getting the VE and AFR set) up through the gears. Once I hit 2600 rpms, starts to bog and miss. Bad enough through first and second but once in third - forget it. Stops accelarating. The question I have is - is it going too rich and causing a missfire leading to the lean ...

Re: Engine Won't Shut Off

Figured it out. I had used one of the connections on the relay board for providing 12v supply to the injectors for the power to the EDIS module. Changed that to switched 12v and that did it!

Re: Engine Won't Shut Off

I have found that if I start the engine and do not rev it up enough to kick in the regulator so that the alternator charges, I can then shut the engine off normally. Once the alternator kicks in, the engine will not shut off. The problem is that I have tried several locations even directly on the ...

Re: Engine Won't Shut Off

Thanks Matt,
I can verify that the switched 12v has no power with ign. switch off engine not running. If I start the engine, turn ign. switch off (engine still running) and then check the switched 12v with a test light - as soon as the test light touches the 12v switched connection on the relay ...
