This or That

My dad and I have begun discussing some upgrades we want to do to our '73 Mercedes 450SL, which is currently equipped with a very rudimentary speed-density which operates on a very low pressure that we're not very pleased with in the least. I proposed replacing the old system with a modernized ...

2009 Kawasaki Concours TBs - Electric "Choke"

I've wanted to convert this little '74 Alfa Romeo I've got to EFI for a while, because a 2000lb car with a 2L engine that gets 13MPG should not exist. I got a nice deal on some complete, really low mileage TBs from a 2009 Kawasaki ZG1400 Concours, and when they arrived yesterday I discovered they ...

Wiring Harnesses: DIYAutoTune vs. Megamanual

I went to DIYAutoTune and picked up one of their premade 8' wiring harnesses, and when I was mapping it out and bundling wires together (injectors, sensors, etc), I noticed that there are some stiking differences between the diagram provided with the premade and the diagram on the megamanual.
Pins ...

Re: CIS to EFI Injector Question

Well what do you know, this is still here...
After some success and then re-failure, I've deemed something is seriously wrong with my K-jet system so I'm digging this idea back up and committing to it.
I've decided to use the Bosch EV6 style injectors and gone ahead and purchased a fuel rail from ...

Yes, it says PNP and NPN. I've tried it in both positions.

It is a normal stim.

Re: MS1 v2.2 No RPM

Tried all the diodes installed in the input and output circuit. None of them elicited a response in Tunerstudio.

Re: MS1 v2.2 No RPM

Yes, it is standard B&G.
I'm always wary of shorting things, lest they release their magic smoke. That, and I wouldn't know where to start. Input circuit (as diagrammed in the megamanual) I assume?

Re: MS1 v2.2 No RPM

No sir, it's a by-the-book assembly. Nothing awkward sticking up off of the board.

Nope. All the other values work flawlessly except for the RPM.

MS1 v2.2 No RPM

This has been a problem since I completed the assembly. At first I thought it was a flaw in the stim since all the other values worked perfectly. Did a temporary hookup to the diagnostic port on my 1990 Mercedes (where a keyed +12v, ground, and coilNEG terminal exist), and not a twitch from the ...

CIS to EFI Injector Question

So I've got a 1990 300SE that's got me fed up with its awful KE-Jet system, and I decided to EFI it with an MS1 v3 I had sitting around, piggybacking it on top of the original ECU, letting it control spark.
Now I've literally searched for hours, and one thing I cannot find is what kind of injectors ...

Identifying Bosch O2 Sensor

So after some follies with a bum computer in my Mercedes, I ended up with a spare Bosch #13146 O2 sensor sitting around on a shelf that will most certainly get destroyed before the one in the car goes belly up and I wanted to use it in my first megasquirt project (a little four-stroke lawnmower ...

Re: MS1 Crashes Laptop on Serial Connection

Well, it wasn't so much the transistors at fault. I replaced all five of them and it still crashed the laptop. I went and tried it out on my PC (with a built in COM port) and it works fine. I can tool around with the Stim and all except the RPM value work. I suppose this means that PC card is going ...

Re: MS1 Crashes Laptop on Serial Connection

It was a good old case of an ID:10T error. I took a close look at the megamanual and at the board and discovered *drum roll* that I had install all five transistors backwards. Excuse me while I go bash my head into the wall.

Re: MS1 Crashes Laptop on Serial Connection

Whoops, forgot about this. Busy, busy, busy.
Got a couple questions to help troubleshoot this:

1. Does this problem happen only on the car, or also on the Stim?
2. Are you using a USB adapter?
3. When was the last step you were able to connect successfully?
4. What firmware are you running?

Let ...

MS1 Crashes Laptop on Serial Connection

I just finished assembling my first MS v2.2 kit (after building the simulator kit), and although it tested flawlessly during every test step through the assembly, now that it's complete, if I plug in the serial connection to my laptop (with power applied to the ECU), the laptop completely locks up ...
