Re: Used to work, now dies in a few seconds

Well blast it. Cheaper to replace the ignition system than pick up a scope...plus I wouldn't have much else to use it for. I think I'll get a few resistors and see if I can utilize the laptop's sound card as some sort of scope (not on the coil secondary of course, but would be easy to pick up 12v ...

Re: Used to work, now dies in a few seconds

Update: (Sorry for the delay, had to buy a new car)

I have used a timing light to verify that the spark is strong right up to when it drops off. It's not definitive that the lack of spark is causing the stall, but I can't think what else it might be.

I checked to ensure the fuel pump wasn't ...

Re: Used to work, now dies in a few seconds

Timing light test came back clean. It started suffering while the light was still strong, and the light didn't die until maybe half second before engine was done. I'll poke fuel tomorrow, even though I didn't even touch that system.

If anybody has any other ideas, keep them coming please. Ignition ...

Re: Used to work, now dies in a few seconds

Anything is possible. Can't think of what would cause it, but if they are as sensitive as you suggest...I am a little rough on my toys. :D

Quick google search didn't turn up an easy way to test it with a multi-meter. My stim got...um...cannibalized a few years ago for another project. If it's ...

Re: Used to work, now dies in a few seconds

I felt the VB921 and the coil after a couple, few second long spins and neither felt any warmer than anything else.

Used to work, now dies in a few seconds

Hi,

I'm running MSII V3.0 with B&G code 2.89, controlling fuel and spark.

I used to run the ignition with a HEI 7-pin module for both rpm input and drive the coil. Worked for many years in this configuration as long as I replaced the module once a year :)

I attempted to use a MSD 6A digital to ...

Re: No resets before MSD install, now crazy resets

Okay, feeling pretty dumb.

I've just now noticed that the instructions for the MSD 6A say to connect the "Coil -" wire from the 6A to the "Coil -" of the distributor cap. I have had it connected to the distributor's ground instead.

When I first installed it(wired wrong), it started up, albeit ...

Re: No resets before MSD install, now crazy resets

I have re-created all of the grounding for the Megasquirt, due to the fact it was originally installed several years ago and I couldn't track down all the grounds with 100% confidence. (3) ground wires have been individually routed to the same bolt on the engine and are sandwiched together under ...

Re: No resets before MSD install, now crazy resets

Been re-doing all of the MS grounds, but I'm confused.

The V3 assembly guide says to take all the ground pins from the DB37 and route them individually to a single point on the engine and not to combine them into 1 larger wire.

However, doesn't the relay board combine all the grounds into one lead ...

Re: No resets before MSD install, now crazy resets

Oops, got my hand slapped.

I've got a V3.0 PCB with MS-II, B&G code version 2.89
Hardware kit was purchased late 2005.

I looked at the vBatt on the log, but it doesn't seem to show what I am assuming is going on. When starting, I hear a relay clicking on and off very rapidly. Almost a buzz ...

No resets before MSD install, now crazy resets

I have had my MS-II V3.0 installed for several years now. It has worked more or less okay this entire time. I have never had any problems with resets before.

I installed an MSD 6A this past weekend because the stock HEI just wasn't cutting it. The MS now resets like crazy. It's difficult to get the ...
