Re: Interesting sensor page

I don't get the original link (http://www.jpitech.com/1body_probes_and_sensors.php4 ) to work. Could someone update this please? https://www.jpinstruments.com/product-category/probes-sensors/ Well, it's been about a hundred years so I don't remember exactly what that page referenced, but I think th...

Hi Mike,

Bill Shurvinton's first failure was exactly that, the thermistor bead vibrated off the wires and went through the motor. Good thing rotaries are tough, eh?

Re: Audi/VW ELTH CLT sensor calibration data

I am using the Audi/VW OEM CLT sensor, the ELTH 078 919 501 B. Calibration has been done with some ice and boiling water. These where the result: Temp, degC Resistance 0 - 5940 22 - 2300 100 - 200 Sounds about right to me: Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2002 16:42:22 -0500 From: "Camden Lindsay" To: m...

Re: What % reduction to VE bin for leaner cruise?

Hi Jim, Should be pretty simple: 14.7/16 = 0.918 so use 92% of your current VE values to lean from 14.7 to 16.0. You can do this pretty easily in the table editor. Jerry's guys recorded a really cute little video just for you: http://www.DIYAutoTune.com/videos/megatune/megatune225p1_multicell_select...

Derek,

Did you calibrate the MS-II internal tables for that WB? In MegaTune, Tools -> Calibrate AFR Table... and then select the LC1 default. If you don't do this, the values coming back from the MS-II are for the default narrow band sensor.

...it seems to be for boosted engines. James, When they say it's good for boosted engines, they are really just saying that it has a vacuum reference for the pressure. The 2220 non-boosted one, has no vacuum reference and is only good for TBI or injectors before the throttle plate. The marketing pe...

James,

Look at the MSD-2222. It's really a re-branded Bosch regulator, and can be had for less than $70 if you look around. We used on on an Audi turbo motor and it worked great.

I know of two-strokes that do, specifically the Rotax RAVE valve, but never heard of it on a four-stroke.

Yeah, your math looks good (I didn't go through it in detail, though, just skimmed it). I hate to say, but you're doing it the hard way. :) Easy way: Guess ultimate HP, say its 200. Guess a reasonably high BSFC (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption), say 0.5 lb/HP (0.55 or 0.6 might be better, but 0.5 is...

Scott,

Which value specifically are you looking at? The IACStart value has an upper bound of 4000 in the MS-II ini file that I have.

Eldo, when you use the MAF sensor it replaces the MAP sensor as the primary load measurement device. The MAP sensor is used in the speed-density algorithm to estimate flow, while the MAF measures it directly. There may be other uses that require the MAP sensor (barometric correction, transient compe...

No, to get into the danger zone requires a minor adjustment to fueling. Fuel cut simply turns off the fuel altogether and there is no possibility of combustion.

Hmm, good question regarding failure mode. I always thought it was just catastrophic failure (for example, the ceramic substrate just fractures or melts down). Like Mike says, you can shield the sensor in the pipe and make it last longer (but I suspect you are compromising response times when you do...

The only numbers that really matter are peak HP and peak RPM. Obviously, as HP goes up, fuel requirements go up, but not so obviously as engine speed goes up, injector size must be scaled disproportionately larger to account for non-productive open and closing time. Assume BSFC of 0.55, so to get 10...
