Re: Bike Injectors to Car Injectors

If you're going from low to high impedence, then you don't need the PWM settings anymore. So you should be able to just plug the Ford injectors in without any hardware changes.

Re: Which grounds to use for sensors ?

I'm using the original coolant sensor as fitted to the OE injection, and that is grounded to the block. Would it make sense to change it for a two wire type - if such things exist?

Yes. The one sold by DIYAutoTune is a two wire. I had to make that change, among others, on my bike. It made a big ...

Re: Which grounds to use for sensors ?

There's really only one ground, but it does matter how things are wired.

All your sensors must ground to the MegaSquirt, which is then grounded to the engine block.

You start to get problems when you ground a sensor to the engine or the frame.

You have more wires than you have pins, and that's OK ...

Re: Designing a custom MAF sensor housing.

Charles,

You and I appear to be thinking the same way. I just finished calculating the intake airspeed. With my 750 CC engine at 9000 RPM and pushing 6 pounds of boost, I'll see an intake air speed of 33mph in the 1.75" 16ga intake pipe.

If I up the boost, I could potentially see a 50+ mph wind in ...

Re: Designing a custom MAF sensor housing.

Mike, thanks for your reply.

I suspect that you're right about this. My only concern is what will happen if the airflow changes in such a way that it stalls or partially stalls at the sensor. That could mess me up. But I won't know until I try.

The Nissan sensor is smaller, but I don't think it's ...

Designing a custom MAF sensor housing.

I've got a turbocharged BMW K-75 motorcycle running using hybrid Alpha-N. I'm thinking about a way to convert the bike to use a mass air flow sensor instead.

My intake consists of two 90 degree bends between the air filter and the turbo, with no straight runs where a MAF could be easily mounted ...

Well, the coils are making sparks when they're supposed to. So I'm going to operate on the assumption that it works.

Re: Is this sensor good enough?

That test was done using the starter to crank the engine. You're seeing the RPM's drop as each cylinder hits its compression stroke. So that part's normal, at least.

I thought about it some more, and it seems to me that the processor isn't going to look for a specific waveform. It's just going to ...

Is this sensor good enough?

Lacking any sort of available sensor setup that would fit my engine and work with the MegaSquirt, I made my own crank position sensor using NTE3100's. (It's a long story, but trust me, it was necessary.)

Here's the result from the initial tests on the oscilloscope. Is this signal good enough to ...

Check my sensor please.

Long story short, I'm making my own crank position sensor.

I've made the shutter wheel and now just need to permanently wire up the sensors and mount them. I'm new to electronics and want to be sure that I've done this right. Here's my wiring diagram.

Thanks for the quick reply. I should have guessed that they'd vary in length. What a pain.

I've been doing a lot of parts hunting since I posted and it looks like the injectors for a 2000 Mazda B4000 pickup will work, at least as far as flow rate, impedence, etc. I'm hopeful that the size is right ...

New style vs. old style Bosch injectors.

I have a question about Bosch injectors. I'm currently using 0-280-150-210 injectors on my bike. I want to go with two injectors per cylinder using Kurt staging. I've got it all worked out except for finding room. The stock injectors are too wide to install a second set.

The "new style" Bosch ...

No pic, but I measured another Stang pump. It's 5" long including the hose nipple on the end, and just under 1.5" wide.

I work at an AutoZone and so I see quite a few fuel pumps go across my counter.

Some of the car fuel pumps are pretty small. For instance, I've got a 95 Ford Mustang pump in my bike. It's pretty small and works well, and it's always available.

If you ask nicely and it's not a busy day, I bet they ...

I don't have direct experience with the GSXR, but can tell you that it's OK to have the fuel pressure not referenced to manifold pressure. Harley does it on their bikes, and I suspect you're right about the GSXR. Any differences in the fuel flow due to the pressure difference will be compensated for ...

BMW K-75, K-100 and K-1100 motorcycles are another source. It's probably a Bosch part. The injectors on those bikes are Bosch as well, so it should be compatible.

Actually, your TPS is. You've got it wired backwards. You should see a higher value at WOT than you do at idle.

Bosh makes a nice external fuel pump.

I don't have the part number, sorry. But I have one in my BMW K-75. Of course, I needed an internal fuel pump, so I sawed off one of the two hose nipples and shoved it in my tank. But maybe it's a start.

It was about $250. By comparison, a Ford Mustang fuel pump is onlt $80, but can't be mounted ...
