Re: MegaMeet West Coast - Oct 29-30th 2011

Bruce just found out that he can't make it to the Meeting because of new work commitments. I can tell you he was not happy about this and let everyone involved know it. I had made plans around his giving the model based presentation on Sunday, so I am planning on leaving Sunday first thing. But I ...

Re: no communication and fp relay clicking constantly

I've never tried the verify only operation on the downloader, but I can tell you that your last download with 2.905 was successful. The tipoff is "vwerification succeeded". This means the PC was able to read the code it downloaded and burned in Flash memory back and compare it with what it sent out ...

Re: calibrating AFR table

So the flash burn issue only affects the thermistor (CLT, IAT), O2 AFR table, MAF table,CAN outmsg tables which are not duplicated in RAM.
Lance.

Right, and they are not duplicated because there is typically way less ram in EMS processors, so you have to save it for data that is really needed ...

Re: MSD blaster 3 coil settings

Yes. I think there was some misunderstanding about the max spark duration. You don't really need nor can you control spark duration. It is what it is after spark starts. But it will never last 350 ms. The tech was probably puzzled by what this variable meant. It really has to do with how much to cut ...

Re: MSD blaster 3 coil settings

Max spark duration is not a critical number. It is there for the case where you are at very high rpm and have a lot of cylinders like a 6-8 and so the time between cylinders is only 4 ms and you have set dwell as 3 ms and spark duration as 2 ms. 5 ms won't fit inside 4 ms so the ecu scales down the ...

Re: Hard rev limit all of a sudden

The ecu would only be changing timing if it were adding a tooth that wasn't really missing. But it could only do this once, and if the tooth weren't really missing, it would see a tooth miscount and set resync flag, meaning you should also see rpm flip to 0 while it is resyncing. If more than 1 ...

Re: Hard rev limit all of a sudden

In looking at the datalog again, I noticed that when you watch the trigger + or - it stays at 0 until it gets to 6k rpm at which point it drops sharply down to a large negative number, around -40. What does this this track? Is this changing the timing from the table amount? or is this the actual ...

Re: 14-5 triggerwheel can it be done?

As Matt says, it should work in theory, but has never been done before that I know of. Its not a 28-10 wheel, the missing gap is 5 not 10, so treating it like a cam wheel with 28 teeth would make it 28-5-5 and that won't work.So you need to put it in as a 14-5, single crank wheel and fire spark ...

Re: Cold start issue

Everything looks good on this but your fuel is dropping (9 ms to 3 ms) as the MAP drops(95 to 46 kPa). This is good because the engine is catching and the vacuum shoots up, but you need more after start to make up for it. The msq shows a cold ASE of 25% and 20% for hot ASE. I would set the cold to ...

Re: Stumble on quick throttle open, not on gradual

When you tune VE you should be in steady state, so AE should not be triggered. If it is getting triggered in steady state then it is best to fix the problem - you will have to eventually anyway. But if you don't/ can't do that, then AE should be disabled. There is no switch to turn it off - you ...

Re: Stumble on quick throttle open, not on gradual

The only way accel should affect idle is if the tpsdot/ mapdot thresholds are set so low that just the normal small fluctuation in tps or map, which occurs even at idle, triggers accel enrichment. You should be able to see this on the datalog at idle. If the accel enrichment is > 0 ms it is acting ...

Re: Problem compiling V2.890 using CodeWarrior

It might be - I know the code + data is well over 32K, but I don't know how CW figures out the limit, whether it code only or code + data. If you need to cut code, the first place I would try is get rid of CAN.

Re: Problem compiling V2.890 using CodeWarrior

I don't think you are exceeding the limit, I think you need the Flash.asm file attached. You should also put it in the CW project directory.

Re: Problem compiling V2.890 using CodeWarrior

You are probably using a newer version of CW than the original code. The newer versions don't like variables named tmpn (don't ask me why), so all the tmpn variables need to be replaced with tmpxn.

Re: Can a Ford flex fuel sensor be used?

The MS flex fuel code was developed and tested with a Ford flex fuel sensor, which provides a frequency output that is proportional to the amount of alcohol vs gasoline. The GM FF sensor is very similar. Either one should work but needs to be calibrated, as was mentioned, unless you have good ...

Re: Max length of MAP vacuum line?

Bruce once tested this with a very long length, probably 10'-20', don't remember the exact length but and he had no problem with response. So its worth a try. I agree about the hard line, if it were mine, but Bruce used reg vac line. In fact if it were mine I would desolder the map sensr and run 3 ...

Re: Stumble on quick throttle open, not on gradual

Its very important that you tune your VE first and only tune it for steady state. Then when that is all done tune the accel parameters. You shouldn't have to touch VE. Otherwise you will be chasing your tail.

Re: 2-cyl 4-stroke bike: injector sequencing without cam sen

There is really quite a lot to it. I gave you a short answer because you sort of seemed to think the engine would not run well without fuel timing. It will, but if you were to purposely time the fuel to inject during valve overlap, and you had a wild cam, then it would run noticeably poorer ...
