MegaSquirt Meet 2009

Postby FoundSoul on Thu Jan 22, 2009 11:50 am

It's winter... but spring is coming, and that means the MegaMeet is coming too. April 18th is the date this year, same weekend as last year (17th-19th are the full dates). Location is again here in Suwanee, GA at DIYAutoTune HQ.

As always there will be new and upcoming hardware and software to sneak a peek at, and news on what else is coming. Yes new things have been coming together... and you'll get a chance to see some of it.

And who knows what else... anyone got something fun to bring? Bring it on.... Just don't attract the police ;). (Yes, somebody did last year, tore out of here in a 240sx with spark cut rev limiter and a way rich tune, bouncing it off the rev limiter. Extra fuel in the exhaust + spark cutting in and out with the spark cut limiter = POP POP POP POP! Cops rolled in looking for somebody with an automatic weapon, they were serious too ;).

It's almost a sure thing I'll have traded my current 4WD little Dynapack for a 2WD DynaPack 4000 in the next month or so... so you Turbo Mustang guys that maxxed my little dyno last year.... bring it on ;).

I've got the hotel information with a group rate on the rooms, and went ahead and put a web page together for quick reference to all needed info - hotel / travel / directions / and a rough schedule.

http://www.DIYAutoTune.com/events/megameet_2009.htm

Note that you must grab up a room prior to March 27th or they'll release our block of rooms. All the details at the link above.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this year as I'll be out the the country that weekend... Hopefully they'll be a summer event or a northeastern event this year.

I am definitely going to make it down for this. Its going to be tight but I am going to do my best to have my truck ready - 95 S10 with an RB25DET swap and of course running on MegaSquirtII - thanks to Matt for all of his help! Im looking forward to seeing the MegaSquirt facility and all of the rides!

I'm going to try. As long as I don't break it between now and then :)

For those of us who live on the other side of the country and can't wander over to make the meet, is there any chance anyone would record and upload/podcast the panels?

The titles listed on the program look interesting, but there is no way I can make it from the pacific side to the 'other' side this year.

I hope it ends up being as fun and informative as it looks like from the program!

Road Atlanta is close, and it's a nice track.

It should be a fun event this year for sure :)

Also, on the schedule, note that what's posted now is just part of what we plan on presenting. In past events most topics have been either hardware or software-oriented. This year I want to have the talks more "engine-control" oriented. We have spent the last three years digging into modern engine controls and interfacing with many engine researchers and we want to start introducing some of these concepts into the meet. This is stuff that you will not see anywhere else, period. Most concepts are quite easy to understand when presented in small bite-sized chunks, and we have been working with universities on testing the control models so we have real research data to present. This is what will make MS operate as well as any OEM system, with the added benefit of much simpler tuning and a vast reduction of control variables. Again, you will not see this subject matter anywhere else outside of research institutes or OEM automakers.

And we can also talk hardware/software, too.

The schedule will change/adapt as we get closer to the event...

We will have this available this year. Kyle from 1320video.com is coming to the event to capture the more interesting parts on film and will upload. He worked the Richmond, VA event two years ago and it was excellent!

Many thanks for the opportunity to get portions of the info at least.

It really does sound like an event to be at, if I could only have swung it!

Maybe if someone can arrange it... but that is the problem. It takes many things to put one of these things together: a shop with a dyno that is willing to be there on the weekend for almost free, a hotel with a meeting room, someone local to arrange it. It also costs a good deal of money for chairs, tables, meeting rooms, etc. I would love a meet on long island (I have family there) but resources are limited. Jerry of DIYAutoTune has a shop in GA with a dyno and he graciously loans out his time and resources to hold this event.

I have been looking at trying to setup a west coast meet either here in Tucson or in San Jose but have gotten no traction (cant find a shop with a steady state dyno that will return my calls).
