Golf Injection Manifold for 8V

Post by jojje »

Im new to this forum and to Megasquirt, but im in the process of assembling my first Board. :)

The first obstacle to take care of if this of the injection manifold.

I will run the application on a Vw Golf II, with a carb. But my question is what kind of manifold to use, does VW have a Manifold that will fit the old 8V engine? (a manifold with injectors that is). If not, what are my other options?.

Best Regards

Fuel injected VW's didn't have their injectors mounted in the manifold rather the injectors were mounted into seats threaded into the cylinder head. The easiest thing for you to do would be to get a cylinder head and manifold from an injected 8v. If that's unacceptable to you, you could do something like this, it's a Mk1 manifold that's had injector bungs welded onto the runners.

OMG, that construction is awsome, your own design?.

Im actually looking for a manifold (or apparently a cylinderhead, but i havnt found any), what version of Golf would that be?, the only one i can think of is the K-jetronic w/ the mechanical injectors (perhaps easy to change into electronical though?). Thinking about that, you are correct that´s injection into the cylinderhead

Your picture there is awsome, i wish i could do something like that. Are you from Europe by any chance? :D , i could buy that off you :D

cheers johan

That manifold isn't mine, I just stole the picture off of another website.

The K-jet heads will work, you can remove the seat insert for the mechanical injectors and replace them with ones for electronic injectors. The 84 or newer heads are easier to to do this to as there is a direct VW replacement part designed for that purpose.

Please note that I'm speaking from North American experience, VW did some things differently over here than they did in the rest of the world so double check what I'm telling with someone that's got local experience.

I dont remember the engine code but its the one with the Keihin Carb. 1.6 litre. Do you have any tips for which TPS and trigger ?, i probably will use the hall sensor in the dist. first though.

We never got that particular engine in North America, so I'm not 100% sure which engine that it. Is it the same style of block as the 1.8L engines? Or is it the small block like the 1.4L Polo engine?

Nah its the same sice as the 1.8. I dont think we got any smaller engine than the 1.6 over here.
