coolant sensor

Post by mataston »

i have wired my coolant sensor up and on megatune it displays the temperature fine, my question is can i connect it too my existing gauge?
as 12v would normally run through gauge then through the coolant sensor. that would mean the if i hook up my gauge 12v would be going into megasquirt first??
also is there a way of maybe building a digital gauge that would read the info from the 9 pin serial connection?? i have seen the lcdash which is about but what if only want the coolant info???

cheers mat

Sharing sensors with a gauge is like sharing sensors with the stock ECU. It's sometimes possible. See here:

http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/sharesen.htm

Some thermal type gauges have so low a "bias resistor" value that no sharing is possible. There's a reason factory EFI cars either have separate sensors for the ECU and gauge, or drive the gauges from the ECU.

i dont have a stock ecu, which is the reason i have the megasquirt to start with, my car is a kit car.
i am interested in finding out how to read just the coolant info from the megasquirt so i can drive and lcd to display it??

if anyone knows how to

It would be possible to build a gauge to display settings using the CANBus. There's a company I've seen called PointStep that's done this using analog gauges with the MS2.
