Long Injectors

Post by nitropixie »

Hi all

I'm in the process of thinking how to megasquirt my friends TR6 Pi. What i plan to do is try to keep everything as original as possible and make a relatively easy installation. So keeping the original Pi inlet manifold rather than fabricate my own.

What i am after at the moment are some long injectors which would be a fairly similar size to those originally used. The main shaft of the injector is about 50mm in length, not overall length, very similar to the design of diesel injectors. I have found these

http://www.mmcompsys.com/download_zone/ ... jector.pdf

which are kind of the thing i was looking for, but as i'm trying to do this on a budget (as ever) so does anyone know of any OE ones i can rob from the local scrapyard or alike?? or shoot me down for being brilliantly stupid would electrical controlled diesel injectors work or was that a really bad stab in the dark???

I know i will have to look into flow rates and the specs but just need some help to start off with really.

Bear with me, as I'm not familiar with the Pi manifold - but do they need to be 'skinny'? Standard Bosch-style injectors are the same length as the ones in your link, just fatter in the body at about 24mm. Then there are the 'Gen 3' injectors used on most cars and trucks in the US (and many European) since around 2000. They are once again the same length, but skinny like the ones in your link, and available in many flow rates on eBay and at the local wreckers. Be aware, each style has a different electrical connector, so be sure to get them with the injectors if possible.
HTH,
David

Thats a great help thanks, gives me somewhere to start looking rather than a needle in a haystack type thing. The diameter of the injectors is 12mm but with the facility of possibly going a couple mm's more if need be

Thanks again Ryan
