Board acting funny

Post by ISUProject »

Here is the breakdown of what I have done, and what is happening.

1. I was doing final testing on my board before hooking it up to the system.

2. Plugged it into the computer to do a final check on functionality and it worked fine for about 30 sec to 1 min (Note, I have used the board before on the computer with no glitches.)

3. Megatune starts to flicker in and out of working and then stops all together and goes to red gauges showing nothing.

4. Stim board is still showing lights, but they are acting funny. All of them flash at times, and sometimes none.

5. Check loop back on the board with Hyper Terminal. Checks fine. I get echo back with no problem, which includes having the stim board plugged in.

6. Hook everything back up and jumper the B/LD plug the stim in and I get the flash of the led's, then the IG led on the stim board stays lit, and the PMP and the IDL light slowly come on and stay lit.

7. Proceed to try and connect to the board using hyperterminal and reload the firmware.

8. Process times out not being able to connect to the board.

9. Open Megatune, and it is still not seeing the board.

Hopefully this is enough information for anyone to help me. Is this a problem of the battery, or should I be looking for something else? I was up working with it last night trying to get it up and running to only have no success. I have a power supply with me now that when I get back home I am going to try that, I will post my findings, but was hoping for some more leads by the time I get there.

Try reloading the code again, and post a screen shot. These often have clues about what exactly is wrong with the board.

I have exactly same issue now. I use a 12V power supply (110VAC to 12VDC 3A) on JimStim to power on SMD 3.57 board and one V3 board. Before I never notice this problem, since after find the Clock running on realtime display I normally turn the Stim off and continue to assembly.

Initially, I think that the problem could be from MS-II daughter board, so I put the new MS-II daughter boards again and again  . Now, I have three MS-II boards which can not be connected to downloader and Megatune anymore. And I just started to understand that the problem could be from powersupply. I am really really going to cry. Are all of those MS-II daughter board dead forever???

I am going to use a 12V motorbike battery directly for my trouble shooting and have bought 2 more MS-II daugher board from DIYAutoTune few mins ago.

It's unlikely you damaged the daughter boards if it is a power supply problem. Usually something on the main board will break first - if anything besides the power supply broke, that is.

That is good new for me.
And the next question which will be asked by ISUproject probably is that without the RS232 connection, how can we re-download the firmware with BDM?

I do have the BDM kit just bought few days ago, since I am thinking that I will have to repair those MS-II daughter board by myself to continue the trial and error efficiently without waiting overseas delivery. I am still trying to know how to flash the microcontroller.
