Looking to MSII a Ford 4.9L straight 6 for rock crawler

Post by burt4432 »

I am looking to set up a Mega Squirt II on a mid nineties Bronco chassis. I am looking for anyone who has experience with a 4.9L. I have everything mostly worked out on paper but I am looking for anyone that has an insider tips that could help out with set-up. It looks to be an easy setup but after looking through the posts, I don't see any for my engine. I know it isn't the most common but someone must have done it before. Any pointers would be great cause i have 3+ engines to do if the first one works out.

I am also interested in this setup, as I have a Ford van with the 4.9L, and am interested in converting it from the old carb to a FI setup of the Megasquirt variety :)

Easiest way is to use the factory EFI parts including the harness, then get a EEC IV to MS adapter setup to hook the MS 3.00/ MS2 into the ford harness. Lot of conversions on 5.0's here and I'd get a msq file as a starting point. The ignition set up would be the same if your running a TFI module. Change the number of cylinders from 8 to 6, injector size. Load the 5.0 fuel VEX fuel map and start it up. The engine sizes are very close so you should be able to tune this app. in with minimal changes.

As I look into this a little more I am thinking about using the EDIS system, MS II on 3.57 board. Would like to get rid of the distributor and go to coil pack. We run our machines in the water so we extended the dist. shaft up a foot. It works but would like to get away from that. Where do i go to get a MSQ file?

I've seen EDIS run underwater before.

Check out the configuring and tuning manuals for how to create a base map.
