tbi on amc 360

Post by lastcj »

What all parts do I need to get from the junk yard to do a TBI on my jeep. I know I need the Trottle body but what all else can be sourced from the junk yard. Also will megasquirt 2 control spark if I use a D.U.I. distrub.

You'd need to lock out the distributor's advance mechanism and switch modules to get control over the timing. At the very least, you'd want to grab a TBI from a Chevy 350 and bolt that on with a Mr. Gasket adapter plate. You may not want the TBI air cleaner, but you'll definitely want the collar spacer that goes between the air cleaner and TBI as leaving it out costs you power. You can also find pumps and sensors in the junkyard if you want, though most of the key items are contained in the TBI itself.

Like Matt said, you should grab the sensors. The air temp and the coolant temp sensor are the main ones to get. If you are building you harness be sure to at least grab the connectors with plenty of wiring to splice into your harness.

If you have a newer 360 (late 70's on IIRC) they you have a duraspark distributor. This is a good distributor from ford and is easy to use with MS. Replace the stock cap with large ford cap/rotor and you won't have to worry as much about spark jumping to the wrong terminal. You'll need new wires though as the large cap uses the more modern "male" connectors.

While you are in the yard pulling parts see if you can get an e-core coil and bracket from an 80's ford, it is a nice upgrade from the stock coil used on AMC's.

Hope that helps. Brian.
