New project, new questions. Ford V8 EFI swap
The project: I'm gearing up for swapping a fuel injected V8 into my '69 bronco. It's either going to be a stock 5.0 V8 from a Mercury Mountaineer that's equipped with a distributorless ignition system (but can easily be retrofitted with a dizzy). Or a nearly stock 5.8L that has all the efi goodies from the 5.0 installed. Among the bronco community 5.0 efi swaps are pretty common, and 5.8 swaps are fairly rare (because stock 5.8 efi intakes don't fit in the bronco engine compartment). Usually the formula is to use the wiring/ecu/dizzy from an 89-93 mustang. The newer edis stuff is harder to use with stock components, but it has been done. I think MS may be an easier/cheaper route to go no matter if I use a dizzy or edis (esp. since I have a controller just sitting right now).
OK: my questions:
1) is there a good source for stock fuel/spark curves for various ford/mercury engines/ecu's just in case I want to set my MS controller up to run the 5.0 without modding it?
2) If I use the 5.0 efi components on a 5.8, can/should I start with stock fuel/ignition curves for an efi 5.8?
3) as an outgrowth of #2, is anybody aware of a ford 5.8L engine that was factory equipped with edis?
Thanks all,

There's a couple maps floating around various 5.0 sites like the Corral. I can't vouch for their quality but one could probably work OK. Note that they're not copied off a stock ECU but instead are things users have put together. Failing that, the manual covers how to make your own base map. You will want to tune it to your specific engine for best results.Hal9000 wrote: OK: my questions:

I could think of worse starting points. It will need to be tuned to match your engine though.2) If I use the 5.0 efi components on a 5.8, can/should I start with stock fuel/ignition curves for an efi 5.8?
Apparently not. '96 seems to have been the last year for the 5.8, and they had TFI. It might be possible to get the 5.0 EDIS hardware on one though.3) as an outgrowth of #2, is anybody aware of a ford 5.8L engine that was factory equipped with edis?
Thanks all,

Not sure if its worth the effort (but the cool factor may come into play) to put edis on the 5.8, but if I decide to do so, do you think that the ignition map for a stock 5.0 would be a good starting point?
Really, what I was hoping to do (at least to start with) was to get a completly stock OEM set of base maps, but it sounds like Ford still has a stranglehold on that information. My main goal is to get the vehicle running and reliable. Maximizing performance is a very secondary goal at this point (Not like I'm going to do any 1/4 mile passes in a '69 bronco!). So I was hoping to avoid a lot of tuning time. My thinking with the MS system is that I could dump a lot of the extra things like abs sensors, coded igintion keys, and the like, which the early bronco doesn't have and the later model donor does.... Simplifying the install is my main goal.
I did find somebody else who is running basically the same 5.8L engine setup I'm shooting for (stock engine, rv cam, GT40 intake and efi gear) and controlling it with an '89 Mustang 5.0 MAF ecu... If his assertions turn out to be true, that may end up being easier than MS for my current project.

EDIS is a good bit hotter and more accurate than TFI.
Re: New project, new questions. Ford V8 EFI swap
As far as EDIS being hotter and more accurate. I agree, but on a near stock build, I'm not sure I'd see any advantage over TFI in terms of reliability, performance, or fuel economy... If there was then it would make the decision a lot easier to make.

Matt,
I've been trying to get access to the corral (corral.net right?) for several weeks now. I've created an account, but it's still waiting in queue for approval so I can access the site. Have tried contacting the administrators about 4 times and not even got a response saying if there's a problem.... Judging by the size of the site it seems like a pretty popular and well run place so I have a hard time believing that they're as ameteurish as the Impression I'm getting. Can you tell me if this is a normal experience with them?
