Upgrading to MS II

Post by Samuel Powell »

I am certain this has been asked a bunch, but here goes anyway. Please bear with me.

I have MS I running pretty well on a Mopar slant six. Most tuning parameters are well tuned. I was considering upgrading to MS II and have the following questions?

1. What are the main selling points over MS I beyond timing and idle air control, which I understand?

2. Does MS II involve a new relay box as well as a new ECU?

3. Will the communication cable from laptop to to ECU carry over from MS I to MS II?

4. Does the communications cable between the relay box and the ECU carry over from one to the other?

In other words, If I am buying this already assembled, what accessories do I need to purchase?

Thanks.

The wiring (including the relay board and stim) is the same as MS-I with B&G code, except for the added features (spark control and stepper IAC). The advantages are listed here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/

Thanks Lance. I appreciate the link and direction. I read as much of the info as I could grasp in a single session, and feel maybe doing the plug and play daughter card is still a little intimidating to me. It sounded simple enough at first, and I was with it until they started talking about adding jumpers for this and that application, and downloading files to upgrade. This is not my strength at all. If I simply order an assembled MS II from one of the suppliers is it safe to assume all that is done?

But if I buy a built up MS II, I am still a little unclear as to where the ignition controls and IAC are hooked up, if we are using my old relay board. Or does the new complete MSII have its new relay board in the deal? Sorry to be so weak in this area. Although, I know considerably more now than I did 4 years ago.

I will go back and read some more, and maybe this will become clearer to me. Thanks again.

Often you can get the MS2 in without any jumpers if you are using the same features as MS1 - you only need to add jumpers if you are adding features. The relay board is the same with MS1 and MS2 (or the new MS3s, for that matter).
