MegaSquirt @ Nokia Qt Developer Days

Post by JustinNoel »

Hi Guys,

Thought some people on here may get a kick out of this. I'm a software developer of a company called ICS and I needed to write a demo app using this new tool called Qt Quick for conference. Qt Quick is a user interface design system, but that's beside the point. I combined by two favorite things (programming and my car) and created the demo using my MS-II 3.0 and my JImStim. The demo came out pretty slick for a only a week of work. When I get some more time on my hands I'd like to continue work on this program (make it configurable and read/write) and release it as open source back to you guys. It's mostly C++ and built using open source libraries so anyone should be able to use it and extend it. It will also work on windows, mac and linux without code changes or #ifdefs. Thanks for such an awesome product. The serial comm was really trivial to implement. Here is a video that Nokia took of my demo.

Justin - yes, indeed - I got a kick out of this!!! Pretty impressive, especially in the fact that it took 2 days to get a working system!

I am not at all knowledgeable in QT, when you are done with the conference can you tell us how all this works? The demo is pretty impressive and may be the easy ticket for those who want to experiment with their own data collection systems. From what I gather, QT is a software suite from Nokia that runs on multiple platforms - is this correct? And the ability of generating the graphics in other drawing tools like Illustrator and inporting them opens up a whole new world.

Pretty cool! :)

Sorry about not watching this more closely. I thought I would get emails about replies to my topics. Anyway... I'm off to do this demos in Ireland at the MeeGo conference on Thursday. I will be back the 18th and I will post source code after that. Yes, Qt is a cross platform C++ toolkit that Nokia acquired when it bought Trolltech. It's literally runs everywhere (after recompile of course). If you've use KDE on Linux (or their ported apps to windows) at all it's entirely written in Qt. Nokia made is LGPL so you can use it for free for open source or closed source projects. Anyway it's super easy to write with and this program would be an good example of how to get started.

It's been awhile and the demo has expanded to a general automotive IVI system. If you'd like to see the latest demo and source code (licensed under the GNU GPL) check out ICS's website: http://www.ics.com/services/qtquick
