Question about MS for just fuel injection.

Post by Tshern »

I just put together a 331 stroker and right now is carb'd. Would like to go fuel injection (its in an 88 turbocoupe so I have fuel pump already) what would be easiest to go with? MS1 2 or 3? Should I just nab a fuel injection from a new mustang and mate the top end? Trying to info gather as this is pretty new to me. I'd just like the MS for just fuel only.

Ok after reading a bit I see most of the features I can use? Also here is a pic of my motor. Would I be better off getting just a throttle body off a bigger gm truck or using a multi port from a mustang, kind of dislike carbs.

I have a 331 in an old Falcon. I started with fuel only before moving on to the ignition.

For your project I would go with a MS2 V3. You can do fuel only if you want but there is always the option of doing the ignition later if you want.

I used an Edelbrock EFI intake and throttle body. Here is a photo.Let me know if it doesn't show for you.

You could also go with some stock EFI hardware if you choose. Go with port injection if it fits the budget.

That is pretty lol, is that an all in one package? What is it under at summit?

I'm looking at a TB from a later model chevy as it looks like it is the simplest. I'm a little intimidated by most of this, as far as robbing JY parts I have access to just about anything (we have a pretty large junkpile). What challenges do I face going with something mulit port vs a tbi from a later chevy? Is there a gas mileage or performance difference?

The intake:

Fuel Rails:

Fuel Rail Stands for Pico Injectors (these are not optional)

Throttle Body with GM IAC:

The TBI would be easiest but I think you would be happier going with port injection. You'll have the option to go sequential later if you want. TBI can have the same fuel dropout issues that carbs do. Fuel plumbing is trickier with port injection. You'll need a return line.

It the bits are easy for multipoint, go for it. Much better than TBI.

Is one easier to tune vs the other? Another issue is I have a HUGE hei distributer (had to remove some beef from a intake runner) and worried plenum hits it.

Look at the photos on post three of this thread. This is a large cap on my 331. It cleared with no problem.

This is what it looks like now. EDIS8 in process.

I found tuning the port injected stuff quite easy. Just highlight a fuel map cell and bump the numbers up or down.

Thanks for the replies, think I'm going to get an RPM performer, add some injector bungs, make a fuel rail, and a 90* adapter and run a 65mm tb from a mustang on it. Any idea why this wouldn't work?

Go with a single plane manifold. There is no need to a dual plane when there is no fuel in the runners. Dual planes are usually divided for left and right banks. You don't need that. An open plenum is good.

Look at this link for some good DIY parts.

If you are new to the EFI/Programmable Engine Management thing I'd sugest reading the book "Performance Fuel Injection Systems" by Matt Cramer and Jerry Hoffman.

This will allow you to make more informed decisions, and less likely to make costly mistakes when converting from carburetor to EFI.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate all the help and responses btw. I been weighing and checking my various options, think I may by a BBK SSI intake and pull a mustang harness, then go with the PNP mustang kit from the site. How hard would it be to make it work with my HEI dist instead of the ford TFI? I know there is just a setting for it inside the software but as far as wiring goes?
