Testing MSII for spark

Post by 8803 »

I have tested all my inputs(sensors) on a motor that is running with a carburetor and stock ignition. They all work. I then wired in the direct coil. The 12+ is comming from a fuel pump relay and the (-) is running to pin 36 of the MSII. I have no spark at all. Is there any test to determine the MSII direct coil circuit is working on the car?
Thanks for any help.

When I switch on the MS I hear both relays click and than a moment later the fuel pump( grounded through the MS pin 37) relay switches off. Since I am testing only on this "running with carb motor" the fuel injection fuel pump is not even connected. What would make the MS turn off the fuel pump relay?

Does the MS see a good RPM signal when cranking?

Matt
I realize after I posted that the FP relay was designed to shut if the engine wasn't cranking so that problem is no longer a question. Here is the real problem.
When I start the engine with carb and stock coil, the trigger appears to output an RPM that looks correct and steady. Then, very consistently(18sec) the RPM graphic in TS will freeze and TS will go "off line". The fuel pump led will than "flash" for sometimes more than a minute and than it will stop flashing.
I have also tested my coil being connected and it will fire but the timing must be way off. That is the next problem.

Can you post an MSQ and a data log of the problem?

Would an MSQ be a file? I am not sure what that is. I have Mega log viewer on my notebook but have never used it. I need some direction here as well. What file name am I looking for with Mega log Viewer?
Thanks for you patience.

Here is a longer msq. I should note that the real RPM read with an IR tester was around 1400rpm. The problem still seems to be a communications drop and than aventually the MS freezes.

It doesn't look like the problem happened during the data log, but I did notice that your MAP sensor appears to be unplugged.
