What am I gonna need?

Post by jc6711 »

After doing much reading I am finding my self getting overwhelmed with information, and at the same time not clear answer to what I am looking for. Like everyone else on here I am looking at running a mega squirt ecu in my car for various obvious reasons that we all already know. So here is what my project is:

1993 Nissan 300ZX (5 speed, non-turbo)
1994 Infiniti VH45 engine ( 4.5L, DOHC, VTC, CAS, ect.)
Single turbo setup with GT42 Turbo
Currently gonna run stock intake manifold, with side feed injectors.

So where I am getting confused is that for this swap I have to run the Infiniti VH45 ECU (out of Q45), and splice into my 300ZX body harness. This will allow me to run the VH45 and the rest of the stuff in my 300ZX. Now that will get the car running stock. This is where mega squirt comes in.

My questions are:
Which version is best for me? ( If you think it would be best to control the ignition timming outside of the stock ecu)
Do I do the Wiring conversion first then install mega squirt, or just integrate it all together?

What exactly will the VH45 ECU control?

If I were to install and run just the stock engine, the vh45 ecu would act just as normal ecu in the car would. Sense the 300ZX and Q45 are both obd1 and Nissan it allows me to do this. I would want the Megasquirt to control the fuel injectors and iginition to start.

You'll want to make a list of what the VH45 ECU would actually be controlling when you swap it over, then subtract out what you've given to the MegaSquirt. We've found a lot of the OBD1 Nissans don't have any trouble with the OEM ECU yanked out completely and running just a MegaSquirt, so I was wondering if you'd have anything left after making that list and crossing off the MegaSquirt controlled items - or if you did have something left, whether it was actually worth swapping over the VH45 ECU to get it instead of finding an alternate means of handling it.
