New to MS

Post by Brickerz »

Hey everyone!

I just finished up my MS1 v2.2 build last night. I bought the kit, the stimulator and the wiring harness and finally had some time last night to get it together. I followed the instructions from the megamanual but have a couple questions, yet. So far I have tested the stimulator (works), used HyperTerminal to get an echo on my USB>Serial connector by looping pins 2/3 (works), and can see the board when I plug it into TunerStudio via the scan ports in the communications/settings menu (COM1). It is still showing Off-Line and I don't see anything happening in the Realtime Display when I turn the pots on the stimulator. All the lights on both the stimulator and the MS box light up and fluctuate when the pots are moved around.

1) I didn't notice in the manual, but do I need to install the 40-pin stand-off piece that the main chip (U1) sits in? I just soldered U1 directly to the board.
2) Do I need to flash firmware to the chip? I think I can figure out how to do that.
3) Do I need to do anything special to get TunerStudio to recognize the board is hooked up, and that I'm changing the values with the knobs on the stimulator?

Thanks for all of your time!

You don't have to, but it does make fixing things or upgrading to an MS2 a lot easier.

It should have shipped with B&G code on it.

Not really. Have you tried the Port Check program? If not, you can download this here:

Try connecting the MS to your computer, powering it up, and run this program, then post a screen shot of the results you get.

Ok, well I feel really stupid... All I had to do was go in and create a new project. The one that was open for some reason wouldn't recognize MS hooked up, but when I made a new project all the gauges came to life. I think I can figure it out from here. Thanks for the reply and help Matt!
