Using MS to record dyno data

Post by robertws19 »

So I am looking in to building an inertial engine dyno for a small single cylinder engine. I am wondering if MS can be used to record the data and produce a dyno graph of HP and TQ. The engine is carburated and is not controlled by MS in any way. I want to use MS to record the following things: RPM, Cylinder head temperature, AFR, and the speed of the dyno flywheel. Do you think I can use megasquirt in the manner I have described? Thanks for your help

It could read those things if the dyno flywheel and RPM were one and the same with current code. Then add an analog input for a load cell, and you can use a calculated field in MLV to display torque and horsepower.

If the dyno flywheel is not coupled directly to the engine, you could either modify the MS2 code or use existing MS3 code (described on MSExtra.com).
