Info on my new MS2 V3

Post by MXBen »

Hi all,

I've recently bought an MS2 V3 ecu off ebay for my Mk1 Mazda MX5 Eunos 1.6 K reg ('92). The setup is currently standard with an original jackson racing m45 supercharger, highly retarded for safety reasons etc. I've bought the car to take on track this year and now is time to start looking at engine (brakes and handling sorted- time for some engine tweaking). I'll be runing innovate (lc1 or lc2) wideband. I've got rx8 injectors in the post, looking at intercoolers and debating chargecooler (getting quote this week). Likely to run it with Coil On Plugs and currently debating throttle bodies and water/methanol injection. I am also likely to use knock and coolant sensors.
So that's what I've got in mind. I'd like to know:
Is the ms2 capable of running above happily?
Would there be any benefit in upgrading to MS2x or MS3?
Is there anyone that would be able to make a harness to go from ms2 to mx5?

I have attached a picture of the MS2 that I've bought. Apparently it has a crank crack or mod? Do you have any idea what this is exactly as previous owner wasn't sure himself (useful!)? Any info on what I have and if it will do what I require will be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Ben

Looks to me like a home made tach signal input conditioning board. MS already has two (a choice for different sensors) which would normally cover most possibilities. You'd need to ask whoever made it why.

If you're intending using COP, you'll need to go to Extra Code. This is covered on a different forum from this one which is for B&G Code. There are links at the top of this page.

As regards whether you need M3 or can modify your existing MS2, have a look here:-

Thanks a lot for the response trakkies.
Am I right in saying that if I was to remove the conditioner board, then I should be back at a standard ms2 ready for mods to be added to allow it to be used on my mx5? Once mods added, I'd then look to add the msextra code? Please let me know if I'm on the right lines here.
All the best

There's several other mods on the board too - have a look at the proto area.

If you power up the board and connect to Tunerstudio, it will tell what code is loaded. I'd guess it will already be Extra since it appears to be using the LED drivers for something that B&G code doesn't.

I'd also be concerned just why it has this home made board fitted. Perhaps a fault on the original? You ideally need a JimStim to check such things.

It's often quicker to remove all mods and go back to standard. That's where the instructions for any mods in the manual usually start from.
