Trigger wheel installation question

hello

im at the beginning of my MS installation
i got my engine running with a stock injection

here i am

VW 2l 16v turbo engine going to the EDIS system

im preparing my trigger wheel and i want to know something...

if i weld the gear with 4-5 tacks in the center do the welds can interfer with the magnetic sensor signal?? or the sensor is only affected by the nearest parts of the thooted gear?? the "ON" and "OFF"

so tacking it in the middle would be far enough from the sensor magnetic field

im kinda newbie with magnetic sensors

The welds would not affect the sense field. Only the tooth moving past the face of the sensor will affect the sensor. The metal tooth on the wheel concentrates the magnetic field of the sensor when it passes close by; this is where the triggering comes from. The toothed ring is just metal...NO magnetic components to affect.

Where did your trigger wheel come from and how are you mounting it? I've got to do the same to my VW 16v and could do with some inspiration/ideas.

on my setup i used a Diesel alternator bracket so my pulley pattern is a bit weird so i only have one v-belt on my cranki pulley

i got another crank pulley to the mahcienshop and 30$ later

machined on a lathe so my Ford Escort thooted gear is centered and sitting on a flat surface now gotta make a sensor bracket and align them and fasten the wheel on the pulley

as you can see i dont use the closer V-belt slot so i machined down the corner to not interfer with the magnetic up and down of the thoot but if you say that it wont affect the signal you can only machine a flat part and still keep your 2 v-belt slots

gotta make sure it clears the alternate shaft sprocket

Wow dude... I wish peeps would post where they get their crank wheels made (or buy them?). That looks real nice. I no longer work as a machinist, otherwise I would just make my own... anyone (even retail) selling crank wheels for ignition decoding on 8v & 16v VW engines?

In the UK Badger5 sell a wheel and spacer to fit VW engines, but it's not cheap.

here's a pic of the near finished crank wheel sensor

still have to paint the bracket and align the good thoot with the VR sensor at TDC then tack the wheel to the pulley

but bracket is made

holes are slotted for adjusting

i'd like to see the pics on this post as they aren't working for me...im still trying to figure a way to mount my trigger wheel to my crank pulley. mine's is a single v groove....i'd also like to see the spacer that Badger5 has...i need to get this mount like a month ago!
