The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.

yes drano, not the liquid, the crystals. it works great. it removes deposits without being acidic to the metal. ive used them to remove k&w block seal before. was the only thing that would get it all out. guy thought he had a bhg and put it in, turned out it was a split coolant hose under the intake. i fixed it all and still had wierd temp probs. ended up changing the hg and saw all the crap in the watter jackets around every cylinder.
as for the popping. it isnt deaccel. it happens at full throttle while accelerating. and yes i plan to fix the temp prob before driving it again. its been parked. im off tomarow so will change out the water pump and flush it etc.. if everything is good then ill try to get a good datalog for you guys and post that and my msq file.
and could the lean cruise contribute to the overheating issue? jw. it was fine the first few hours of driving so im not sure.

The datalog should make this easier to find as it will show if you have maxed out injectors, run a little lean, had the temp settings back off the timing, etc. Until then, be sure you do not have a fuel delivery problem, (I chased several of these for months). Are you running a turbo?

sorry, thought i had posted this. yes it is turbo. it is a 1984 toyota supra with 7mgte. im running a walbro 255lph pump, replaced the stock fuel feed line with 3/8ths in line and 6an flex line to the filter then from the filter to the fuel rail. i have pte 780cc/min low imp injectors. stock fpr and return. the turbo is a ct26 that has been upgraded with a 57 trim compressor wheel. my ms2 has a 4 bar map, stock tps, gm air temp and coolant temp sensors. aem wideband. ford edis 6 ignition with stock 7mgte waste spark coils with msd wires. 2in hard pipes, greddy type s bov. 3in dp and exhaust from turbo back. all custom and mandrel bent. no cats. just a magnaflow muffler, 3in in dual 2.5in out straight through. stage 4 clutch, r154 trans. stock mk3 supra i/c which should be changed out for a 24x12x4 i/c with 3in in and outs and 3in i/c pipes as soon as i finish making my new front facing intake manifold. it will have a ford 75mm polished tb.
i doubt there is lack of fuel. the pump is good to way more power then the turbo can produce. when i install my garrett gt40 ill install an aeromotive a1000 external and sump the tank. 10 an feed to the front split to dual 8an lines. one at each end of the rail and a 8an center return to an aeromotive fpr. then a 8an return to the tank. im not new to cars, just to tuning the ms2. and currently the turbo is at about 20psi. should be ~375-400rwhp is my guess as is.
Sounds well built. I do not mean to imply that you do not know what you are doing, only that it is easy to miss the forest for the trees. I have seen insects on the intake screen of a fuel pump and enough grunge in a FPR to cause the seat to leak and not hold enough pressure. It never hurts to check your fuel system for cleanliness.
williamb82 wrote:stock fpr and return
Is this a RRFPR? Was it used with a turbo making 20PSI before?

Posting an MSQ and datalog will help a lot. Often times what we think is happening is not, or is happening incorrectly.

fuel system seems to be fine. fuel filter is new. and yes, i was running 20psi on the stock engine management system which runs the afrs crazy rich below 10:1 afr all the way across under boost from like 4k on. which was last on 2 weeks ago before i pulled it off for the ms2. the fpr is a rising rate. 1:1 ratio. its the stock 7mgte turbo regulator. this engine was turbo from the factory. the internals are bone stock except a hks 1.2mm mhg and arp head studs tqed to 90lbs/ft.
well, i do have a bhg, however it take ~20-25min before it starts to over heat when i fill it with water after flushing it. also, was paying closer attn to my ve table and think i found the reason it stops at 5600. in the 250kpa range whcih is ~20psi once it hits like 4k rpm the ve starts lowering instead of continuing to rise. im going to do a lil work to the table as i get time and fill the radiator back up and take it for a spin and see if i get it to run to redline without going lean under boost. this engine is shot anyway and i got another one on the stand ready to be assembled so not worried about screwin it up. plus i got another bottom end besides that one thats good except 1 piston. cylinder walls are fine. lol. nice having extra motors.

You can watch the VE table when you run VE analyzer on a datalog in MLV too. It gives you a good idea of what is going bins you are really using.

well i havent learned all that yet. im still going to adjust those ve blocks i talked about. at higher boost it goes in the steady rising incriment like i would expect these too. i guess the guy i got the map from was running higher boost then me so these blocks were never used so never got raised. idk. im learning alot though. too bad i popped the hg already but im not surprised. lol i expected id screw something up in my learning process. im too greedy with the gas pedal. lol .too hard to not boost. thats why i was trying to get an experienced tuner to do it for me so i could watch and learn, but havent been able to get ahold of him.
well sounds like i need to install it and give it a shot. im going to richen it up first in the areas i mentioned so i can get it to actually rev to redline for a complete datalog first. ill set it a lil richer then i think it needs to be based on the other blocks around it etc... like i said this engine is sol already anyway. if i screw it up more no big deal. lol. kinda what i had in mind for it anyway, was just hoping it would of lasted a bit longer. lol
exactly my plan. lol. though even its replacement wont be the good one. still got tons to buy before i ever put the built engine in. still need machine work to fit the oversized ss valves, i need forged rods, block bored for the forged pistons and the nthe cams and adjustable cam gears i want. ive collected a ton and the head prolly has over $3k in it already. lol. damn cars cost too much.
Sounds like you will have lots of time to learn MT and MLV before you need them. I know I keep promoting these programs, but MT and/or TS are both very capable programs with an awesome GUI. Mastery of either increases fun time exponentially. Using MLV to view your datalogs is an awesome tool for feedback on your engine's operating parameters. MLV can also be used to dial in your fuel table so that all you have to do is concentrate on the fun, and not crashing.

yes. well im rebuilding a stock 7mgte to put in asap. and the built one will be later. i love the throttle response and easy of tuning so much on this ms2 i will likely buy another one later to install on my daily driver. another supra. this one is n/a and pretty much stock except the header, exhaist, intake, etc... itll prolly increase my gas mileage alot, not to mention the power. lol. i may end up running this on every fuel injected vehicle i have.
well, modded the ve tables as i said. istill get the same pop, BUT it keeps pulling after the pop instead of stopping dead in its tracks. sooooo, i got to thinking, and them smacked myself in the forehead. the guy i got the maps from to start with uses meth injection, which means he is likley running more advance then i can run with reg 93 octane. lol. oops. well, i asked another supra guy for his msq so i can check out his timing map as he has a similar setup he runs on 91 octane. just want to see what kind of advance table he is running. i think i got the ve table pretty close to spot on. now i think its just timing. hard to tell of pinging over the exhaust. this thing is LOUD under full throttle.
ok, compared my timing map wit hthe other guys and they are very similar, i just have more advance at low kPa and high rpm then him. under boost its about the same. sooooo that wasnt it. i tried opening the datalog i THOUGHT i made withthe megatweek 3000 and it showed nothing. maybe im just a person of abnormally high intelligence, but i went to file, datalog and start and chose a name for the datalog file and then when i was done driving i chose stop. what did i do wrong or not do?
im telling you, no way to hear pinging over this thing, even if it was. im prolly putting 400+ to the wheels and the exhaust is mandrel bent 3in with no cat and straight through magnaflow muffler. 3in inlet, dual 2.5in out to look stock. lol. there is a LOUD and i mean gunshot LOUD pop right at 5600rpm and then it goes more and has some smaller pops almost like a motorcycle on the rev limiter. its wierd. i need to learn how to datalog this thing. i cant watch the laptop or gauges when it happens. car is pulling to hard and i have to watch the road. lol. is there anyone on this forum thats experienced enough in my area that youd recomend to help? they cant really mess the engine up so im not worried about it. lol. i just learn better from watching things be done. i richened the accell at 100% of the tps by 1 more ms. and the setting before that by 1 and below that by 0.5ms but havent burned to the ms2 and driven it yet. its dark when i get off work at night and dont want to do any testing at night. kids are sleeping and stuff. ill drive tomarow when i get up to see if what i did helps but idk. id like to make a usuable datalog. any directions on that? i thought it was just do ctrl l, then name it and save then drive around then choose stop. but obviously theres something else to it.
williamb82 wrote:i tried opening the datalog i THOUGHT i made withthe megatweek 3000
Are you absolutely positive you are using megatweak 3000, and not Megatune, (MT) or TunerStudio, (TSMS)?
i didnt make the log with megatweek. i tried making it with megatune and then opening it with megatweek. is there a way to make it with megatweek? guess theres more readign i need to do then. any pointers?
