6G72 SOHC - how ignition advance is controled in stock setup

The car is Mitsubishi Sigma '91 (Diamante '92) 6G72 SOHC automatic.
From wiring diagram I can see that original ECU is controlling single ignition coil via power transistor. Does it mean distributor is just selecting the plug to fire or there is some sort of mechanical or vacuum advance built-in? Do not want to disassemble it because the car is in use.
Any expirience with this car/engine? I'm planning to do MegasquirtnSpark-extra and need advice on sensors (for this car specifically).
