I'm fast having doubts about the Bosch LSU4.2 WBO sensor.

Out of the 4 sensors I've installed to date, 2 has failed thus far. Sadly they both failed on the same vehicle, the second sensor not even one month after installation.

The sensor is mounted halfway between the axles, almost vertical.

LC-1 reported Error 2 (heater circuit open) and Error 8 (Sensor overheating) in the two cases.

Is this high rate of failure "normal"?

I too have had many problems with the lsu4.2. I currently have it installed on 8 vehicles and two of the instaltions have given me problems and have purchased my share of sensors. One of the instaltions keeps reseting itself so I called innovtive and they keep telling me noise in the ground. I have it installed according to their instructions, no luck. This weekend I guess I will try sheilding the ground. The other instalation, the one that kept burning the sensors, I did notice that the crimp at the ground terminal wasn't tight so I recrimped and soldered and it fixed the problem. Now on all installs I use gold terminals at ground and solder everyting.

I went through 6 lc-1 controllers with the run-around that you are probably getting. According to Innovate I was the only cutomer of theirs with any problems regarding their producs. After a while the shipping back to them got to them got be almost as much as I paid for the original lc-1, so I went with an AEM and haven't had problems since. A lot of prople are satisfied with the Innovate stuff, but if you watch the board you will see a lot of people having problems with Innovate products also. my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input but just to not get things confused, my concern at this stage is more focussed on the Bosch sensor rather than the Innovate LC-1.

My thought is that it is not the lc1 itself but the possibility of it losing ground. Either through noise or through loose connection. When I was burnning them up because of the faulty ground I would get the error code 2 and 8. Just some possibilities, at $65.00 a shot frustration sets in real quick.

Of course, if the LC-1 is "mistreating" the sensor by not controlling it within specs one could expect it to fail prematurely.

But where do you get the sensor at $65 a shot?

the LSU4 is commonly used by car manufacturers here in europe, and we have a few cars equipped with these as clients (I work for a main dealer). Haven't had any fail yet.

Either the LC1 is the problem, or there's a wiring issue like bad ground etc...

I'll go check the earths again. I like the equipment, I WANT it to work in the longer term.

I'll also devise a kind of shield to protect the sensor better from external watersplashes in case that is contributing to reduced life. Can't do anything about condensate inside the pipe as the sensor is sitting just behind where the pipes from the LH and RH banks merge...

maybe ur sensor is too far back & the heater is on most of the time.the stuff ive been reeding & shops ive talked to say to put the sensor 4"-8"after stock manfold or just after collectors on headers.
