Injector earth and the relay board

Post by Bollox »

This maybe in the wrong slot, but I wired up the relay board and didn't get anything across the plug ends of the injectors, so I cut the wires and earthed them to the chassis, now I can hear the injectors open (and get 12v's across the injector plug ends), but are they jammed open and not pulsing it seems like a shed load of fuel is being dumped into the engine, is this even possible that the injectors can be left in the open position if so how can I test this and eventually repair it.

Any suggestions would be great, as raw fuel was being pushed out the header

Well, yes, if you ground the injector wires to the MS, they will stay stuck open until you wire them up normally. Do the injector LEDs work normally when you test the MS on the Stimulator?

No I dont think they do, I will check tonight I'm at work.
The relay board was reading nothing during cranking at the earth and hot side of th 4 inj slots 1,1,2,2 as shown on the relay board wiring diagram, could the relay board be bad?

Thanks.

Matt you might need to send me another relay board!!

I'm having a hard time figuring out just what wires you grounded.

A multimeter generally isn't fast enough to see the pulses on the injectors, but you should have 12 volts at the injector power strip.

Matt, thinking about this in more detail, idont think the MS was firing correctly. I basically wired up the relay board as per the schematic. plugged it in and found no voltage going between the live and the earth of the injector cap when cranking, so therefore I cut the earths and and earthed them to the body of the car, turned the key and the car started, little did I know that fuel is just pouring through it, lucky I didn't hydro lock it out.

Back to basics, do I need to do anything else other than just plug the relay board in ?

Do I need to provide jumpers to the earths seperatly, or earth them to the MS case?

Maybe the board is bad in the relay, or I have configured the MS bad and the thing aint firing correctly

Do the injector LEDs light up correctly when you plug the Megasquirt into a Stimulator?

Matt here is the msq file.

I have also taken a few photos to see if this can help

Ok, I take it each injector is connected to one black wire and one red wire.

Do the lights on the JimStim marked INJ2 and INJ1 blink when connected?

Matt i think I have it figured out the injector delay was set to 180% I reset it to 45% and the injector lights started to flicker as if working properly.

Did you take a look at the msq file? and see anything up the creek>?

I did not look at the file yet as I had wanted to see if you could get the injectors working on the JimStim first. I wasn't sure if this was hardware or settings.

If the photos are accurate, I see a relay board with no power/ground wires soldered to it and no fuses. If the photo is not representative of the current situation, disregard.
