Hi all, I was just at the junk yard yesterday to pick up an edis setup and only now realized the small 25uf radio noise suppressor is missing. It it nessessary for installation and operation?
heres a pic:

It's the little silver thing bolted on to the side of the coil pack. It doesn't seem to go anywhere, but do I need to go back and get it?
Thanks

Hi.
The capacitor is a useful component, it helps to keep inerference out of the MS/EDIS system.
Use it and connect it as close as you possibly can to the +feed of the coil pack.
The mounting lug should be screwed onto a solid ground ( chassis, engine etc)
and is the ground connection of the capacitor .
Best regards

Darn, was afraid of that. I didn't want to have to drive 50km to the yard, but I remember exactley where the cap was. Thanks for the quick reply, that means I can head out there tomorrow!
Also, does the trigger wheel have to be exactley the same as a ford or will the ones from DIYAutoTune suffice?
All hail Megasquirt!

pretty much an 36-1 trigger wheel should work

You can run without that capacitor. I wouldn't make a special trip anywhere just to get one. Maybe just plan on getting one the next time you are out.

You may get away with it, but plan on adding it. It's best to use the original value, but it does not have to be exactly the same, so you can generally use most any other style - I've used Mitsu single-coil capacitors and even a points ignition condenser (capacitor) has worked for me.

I've been running without that cap for a long time and not had a problem. I can imagine it might cut down on interference with the radio though. Not a problem for me as I don't have a radio in the car.

OK! Thanks guys (girls?), I think I'm pretty good to go. Ordered the trigger wheel and will get the cap if needed.
One last question, as I don't like starting many threads:
I need to shield the VR and PIP/SAW wires. Would simply twisting them togeather(as in an unshielded twisted pair) work? The Megasquirt pinout diagram shows this for the tach input. Speaking of that, does EDIS use the PCB's Hall/optical or VR input. EDIS uses VR but the manual says Hall/op. I'm pretty sure but just checking.
