vulnerable MAX232 chip, any possible improvement?

Post by teng169 »

I have tried few SMD3.57 MS-II Board, and replaced about 5 max232 Chips already.
And tody I have to replace another more, since I found that it is failed in Loopback check again.

I am just wondering if there is any improved chip which could be put for repalcing the MAX232.

Thanks in advance.

The max232 is a very robust chip. I once accidently powered it with 12v instead of 5v without breaking it. Seems after five failures that something else is zapping your chip. Maybe a bad or no ground at the serial port?
