MS II v3.57 Injector Failure?

Post by macrosloth »

Long story short, I put a cap on the MS side of a 2 amp fuse. The fuse burnt due to the charging of the cap, and the MS ran really badly. was somehow charging the cap off of the flyback.. Or at least thats the theory of why it would run with cap but not with out. Found the burnt fuse, moved the cap to the other side of the 2 amp fuse. Car ran fine. Now it will run fine for a drive, then if its parked and started within the hour it will run like garbage. AFR's are off, really bumpy idling + running. Full thread history is here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=38306

As part of the process I replaced the D19 with a 6.2 volt zenier at Lance's suggestion but that did not help. I took a multimeter between the new diode and ground and saw a voltage of 4.88 volts.

I disabled PWM and placed two 5 ohm 50 watt resistors in line with each of the banks of 3 2.8 ohm injectors. Car drives, but after stopping for a while and starting again, its back to running very rough. Let the car sit for many hours and its back to running ok again. I could not find anything in the logs to ever give me an indication of what was wrong..

For a 3.57 board, what parts need to be replaced for the injector drivers? Can I follow the guide for the MS 2.2 board http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/minj.htm#pwm ?

I've ordered a new board, but would like to fix this one if I can..

The most likely parts to be fried are the transistors on the heat sink, but D5 and D7 may have taken some punishment too.
