EDIS 6 Cylinder wiring question

EDIS 6 Cylinder wiring problem/question.

My EDIS has an extra wire, one not shown on the MSefi website schematics.

It has an orange/red tracer wire from pin 4 on the EDIS unit, this wire then runs through the same screened cable as the PIP wire (pin 1).

Wondering if anyone had anything like this and what you did with it?

I have found a website http://www.dainst.com/info/edis/edis.html which mentions a use for pin 4, it describes it as a IGN GND (signal return) wire, not sure what it's function is though!

Hi Andy,

I used this as the ground for the PIP/SAW signal shield when I was using the EDIS6 with a Megajolt.

Thanks James.

I already have a screened cable source in the M/S, pin 7.

So, perhaps I can ignore this wire?

Interestingly, the 8 cylinder EDIS doesn’t seem to have this wire, pin 4 (the pin in question) is a neg feed to the VR. The extra pin this leaves is used for the 4th coil.

They are both connected internally— it just makes for a neater install to use pin 4 for the PIP/SAW shield— as it's right next to it.

Ahh, Ok.

Good idea, neatness is always good!

It's the the screen connection for the VR sensor lead and SAW/PIP. Don't connect the other end to anything.

Here's the EDIS 8 wiring using Ford colours:-

Sorry, should have mentioned that at the moment all the wires into the EDIS plug are cut! I think the EDIS was literally “cut out”!

Should I just ignore it completely or re-connect to the shield?

Pin 7 on my M/S has a wire which is also connected to the shield? Any problems if I have both plugged into the shield?

Thanks

Andy

Only at one end— not both.
