Cranking pulse widths?

Hiya Guys,
Cranking usually takes around 8 to 10 seconds before it catches and bursts into life, if however I gently dab the throttle it will burst into life immediatly. My thinking is that dabbing the throttle allows more air in so therefore it needs less fuel while cranking. But then I wondered if its the acceleration inrichment kicking in and wondered if it requires more fuel while cranking..... Then I was just confused.... Does this behaviour suggest the cranking needs more or less fuel?
Many thanks
Dave
