So I'll start off by explaining what engine I am working with and my problem. I have a 1990 Volkswagen Jetta with a 2.0L 16V engine running MSII with a v3 board. I started experiencing a strange problem a couple weeks ago where my engine would bog down at 4,000-4,500 RPM no matter what load or throttle percentage. The lower the throttle position, the less intense the bog would be. The higher the throttle position, the more intense the bog would become. It feels very much like a fuel bog and I have a wideband O2 with a digital display that goes from about 14.4-14.7 to high 15 range when in this bog condition. I can recreate the problem like clockwork every time I hit the 4,000 RPM range. Like I mentioned before, it begins at 4,000 RPM and continues until about 4,500 RPM, but below that rev range it runs great and I could power through the bog and it would rev great up to 8,000+ RPM. So my first thought was that this was due to a corrupt tune due to the fact that the problem literally came out of the blue and I hadn't changed a single thing before it began and it has run great without any problems for over 4 years. I re-flashed the MSII and updated it to the latest firmware (I will get the exact number this afternoon as I have to look on my other computer). This is where I ran into some problems though. I have been running MegaTune 2.25 for years and found that it is now obsolete and has permanently been replaced with TunerStudio. Because of how long I have gone without updating the firmware and software, my current tune that had been prepped with MegaTune was not compatible with TunerStudio due to the software not matching the updated firmware, so I was unable to transfer the tune directly over from MegaTune. This also presented me with some problems because the layout of TunerStudio is a decent bit different than MegaTune and I wasn't able to transfer everything over exactly how it was in MegaTune. After I transferred all of the settings over as best as I possibly could, I ran into some other problems. I was getting full accel enrichment at less than 10% throttle which made it impossible to even drive the car. My brother helped me out to try and figure out what was going on, but I'm still having driveability problems that are preventing me from being comfortable with driving the car. We changed the accel enrichment settings from a TPS based setup to a MAP based setup and adjusted the PW with Load settings in an attempt to at least lessen the part throttle issues. We were able to adjust it well enough to at least get the car driveable in a way, but at part throttle cruise, it feels like it has a misfire mixed with improper timing (feels like it is bucking pretty bad). Also, the 4,000-4,500 RPM problem that prompted me to even begin this whole process is still there!

So, as long as that all makes sense, I am hoping to receive any advice for any direction I can take to help fix these problems. If I am missing any info that may help in diagnosis, I will add it as I think about it. Also, I will attach a datalog and tune file this afternoon when I get home and have access to my other computer that I use for tuning. Thank you in advance for any input!

What tune is the old firmware for, and what firmware have you upgraded to?

It is a bit late now for this now, but TS supports all the older firmwares too.

You can load the msq from MegaTune into TunerStudio provided you were using MegaTune 2.25, then all your setting will be loaded. Or youcould connect with TunerStudio and load them from the controller, but that isn't much of an option after the firmware upgrade.

As for the original trouble...That trouble sounds more hardware related. Perhaps your VR sensor is degrading? Your pots might need tweaking?

For the accel enrich, as Matt said, we really need to know what your new firmware is. If you can post an msq that would be very helpful.

"Pre-Smog 042413" is the previous tune that was setup in MegaTune. It was unchanged for a very long period of time, but it was the tune that was loaded when the 4,000 RPM problem began. In MSQ Info in MegaTune, it says that the Megasquirt Signature is MSII Rev 2.88600. I uploaded the latest firmware update ms2extra_3.2.4_release that I found through Mega Manual which caused the problems with being able to transfer my previous tune into TunerStudio due to the software not matching. I still need to grab the latest TunerStudio tune from my other computer, which I will definitely get this afternoon and post it here. Please let me know if there is anything else that I can help clarify! Thank you for all the help so far!

It is the current msq that is more important for where you are now.

The 2.88 firmware you were on is very well supported by TunerStudio, that msq loads right up, you just need to set your project specific settings that MegaTune doesn't save to the msq. However, if you went switched MS2Extra, there are many small differences as that is a different firmware family. With the B&G MS2 firmware the menus and dialogs are very much the same as 2.88 on the current firmware, but MS2Extra does manage many things a bit differently.

Ok cool, thank you for the info! I will do my research and try and get everything figured out. I have included a few tunes that have been adjusted and modified in an attempt to fix the problems. They go in order of "Retry" then "Firmware Re-Tune" and the actual current tune is labeled "CurrentTune". I have also included four datalogs that were taken after the firmware update and they go in the order of "Firmware + Software Update" then "Maybe" then "Fresh Tune" and finally "My Adjustments". I apologize for the large amount of different files that I am including, but I want to give you guys as much info as possible! Please let me know if there is anything else that I can include to help.
