Ned help with 1988 Volvo 230, B230F engine with a Chrysler ignition module.

The ECU is dead and I want to get rid of the Chrysler ignition. My question is can for example the MS1 V3 or MS2 V3 handle the ignition. The info text says "-IGBT high-current ignition driver". Does it mean that I can abandon the Chrysler module and plug the MS ECU to the distributors hall sensor and ignition coil as it is, or do I have to modify something?

I want to get rid of the almost 30 years old electronics.

Thanks for some advices

(spell correcting) advive = advice. Volvo 230 = Volvo 240.

If it has a single coil, yes. A common mod to older engines with single coil ignition is to fit EDIS with used components which are cheap and plentiful. Probably the easiest way to get fully mapped wasted spark ignition.

This follow-up question is a bit late. I have been away sailracing. Back in the garage now. Does it have to be EDIS? I asked a service mechanic who said that they often have to repair Ford EDIS with broken coils. Can wasted spark system from vw golf or polo be used? they never repair vw.

I think your mechanic is wrong. EDIS is generally accepted to be one of the most reliable systems around. Its beauty is it's self contained, and common in most countries.

But you can do wasted spark using any suitable coils and an MS with two coil drivers. Think you'll have to go to Extra code, though. It has its own forum.

OK. I go for EDIS and MSII V3.

Thanks for the reply
