MLV 4.0.01 for linux does not start

Does anyone else have trouble starting up the latest update? I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The terminal says that the megalogviewer.jar file is corrupt.

What version JRE are you using?
If in a Terminal, type:
java -version

For windows, the JRE is bundled with the install. For Linux, you need to have a 1.7+ JRE installed.

Then it sounds like your MegaLogViewer.jar file may indeed be corrupt.
Did you install it or update to 4.0.1 from another version?

I would try downloading it again.

I allowed it to update last night. It was working fine previously. But I also allowed Ubuntu to update some things at the same time so maybe they changed something. To be sure the update didn't fail I downloaded it directly from the site. That didn't work either. I also tried the BigStuff3, no luck. It's been a while since I set this laptop up. I just download, extract, execute the .sh right?

Yep, that is all you should need to do.

Hmm, does TunerStudio run?
If it does, what JRE does it say it is running on in the About dialog?

Yeah, it works fine. TunerStudio MS v2.6.04, Java version 1.7.0_65

That sure sounds like it is either a partial jar file or too old of a JRE.
But I just tried it here with ubuntu and JRE 1.7_51.

One difference, I am using the Oracle/Sun JRE, not Open JDK.

It might be worth trying to install the Oracle Java, but I wouldn't expect that to make it completely not work.

MLV 4.0 is compiles for JRE 1.7, the previous release and TS are still compiled for JRE 1.6

I decided to ask our programming guru here at work ( www.fluidimaging.com ) We installed it on his Ubuntu laptop and it worked fine so we went back to mine, he ran me through the terminal, had me un tar the folder, ran java -jar MegaLogViewer.jar and now it starts again.

Interesting, that is essentially what the .sh file does.
