New to MS, '83 Porsche 944 project

Post by feelingsupersonic »

I decided to go MS on my 944 I'm pretty excited about it. The factory setup is Bosch L-Jetronic, which has been a royal pain at every turn. I've read the FAQ, tuning basics, and am working through the mega manual now. I thought I would post my current build concept, and if anyone has improvements or identifies an error in it, please let me know!

Engine is 2.5L i4, 8v, some light modifications (mild cam grind, crank lightened, etc) but healthy and nothing special.
  • MS unit: Microsquirt with 8' harness, will mount in stock computer location
  • Ignition trigger: 36-1 trigger wheel on crank (found vendor), hall effect sensor from DIYAutoTune
  • Ignition: LSx coils running wasted spark (stock ignition is dizzy on front end of camshaft).
  • Fuel injectors: haven't decided, but I know they will need to be high-z for MicroSquirt to drive the bank of 4.
  • Air metering: 1 bar MAP reading from the manifold, IAT reading from right before throttle body
  • Coolant temp: stock unit, I have thermistor curve, and unit itself is about 1yr old.
  • TPS: stock TPS is not pot type, will fit one from 944 turbo which will work.
  • Idle control: would love to minimize vac lines and delete all idle control valves, although I am open to a PWM type. Will be ditching stock for sure.
That's all I have so far! Will update as I go.

Update to thread - car has been up and running beautifully for the last several weeks on MicroSquirt and aforementioned hardware choices. Injectors are Bosch 0 280 150 431.
