KOEO Tuning with contact points

Hello,
I would like to know if there is a way to power the MegaSquirt for changing tuning paramaters with the engine off.
While having the KOEO the Pertronix igniter stopped working. Now I have contact points and do not want to run 12V
through the coil and points while making changes to the settings. Or turn the engine so the points are open.
I can put a switch on the hot wire to the coil or put the MS on the stim.

My question is are there any alternatives?

MSII V3.0

Thank you,

Jim

Can't think of an obvious way of doing this since MS needs that type of ignition to be fully functional at all times to get its tach signal.
So I'd say a manual switch is the answer. Or just replace the points with one of many conversions to electronic switching.

Wire the power to the coil through the Fuel Pump relay. That way, the coil is dead until the engine is cranking and the FP relay driver is triggered by the MS. You can now safely sit there all day with the key on / engine off with with the MS powered up but no power to the coil.

How is he going to get a tach signal to fire the fp relay? Or did I miss the point again?

May ... be? :D

He's trying to power the MS with the engine off so he can do tuning / setting adjustments, but doesn't want his coil powered in case the dizzy comes to a stop with the points closed. Unless *I* missed the point ...

But since you need a tach signal to cause the pump relay to make, would be engine run?

If you did want do do it this way, I'd guess you'd need to take a signal, via a diode, from the starter relay to the pump relay coil. To force the pump to run when cranking and power up the ignition.

I see the confusion. I don't think the OP specified what he's using for a tach signal. If he's using points or coil -ve, then no, my suggestion won't work.

That's the way I read it (using points), thus my earlier question......
