Dead MSII?

Hi,

The subject is a 1984 Porsche 5.0L V8, Port injected green top 40 lb/hr injectors, Vortech V1 Supercharger, BBk dual 38mm LT1 throttle body & GM sensors, MSD6A triggered by locked-down dizzy, MS II w/ V3 main board - Firmware V2.92. All the MS stuff was purchased through DIYAutoTune.

The car has been running for a year or so, and I'm finally starting to feel like it's running well. I was out last night and stopped for gas then the car would not start again. All 3 LEDS are on steady (accel, inj & warmup) and the fuel pump is pulsing at about 1/2 sec rate, and my laptop will no longer connect (I was connected at the time this happened). I ended up getting trailered home.

I pulled it out this morning. It behaves the same on the stimulator. All voltages look OK, all solder rosen was removed, all the soldering looks good, everything physically looks fine.

Did my MSII just crap out?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

And a follow-on question...

Have there been failures like this reported previously?

Thanks,

I'd first try re-loading the code. Just possible a voltage spike etc corrupted the software. But first check the 5 volts to the processor are present and correct.

If it does prove to be the processor, it can be replaced for about half the cost of a new daughter card. If you decide on that ask on the Extra forum for someone in your country who can do it.

I've repaired dozens of MS2. Processor failure isn't common here. And when it does happen more likely caused by finger trouble - like applying 12v to somewhere you shouldn't.

Thanks for the reply David.

Doing a bootload reflash got control of the MS back again.

Best,
