Re: Ignition coil & ballast resistor choice

If you're using Megasquirt to control your ignition, you shouldn't need a ballast resistor. If your system is configured correctly, the coil shouldn't charge unless the engine is turning over. I'm not familiar with your setup and how the Pertronix behaves when the engine is stopped and the key is on ...

Re: Custom length LS1 coil->plug wires?

Taylor has the LSx coil boots and terminals. I just ordered them from them a few days ago and am waiting for them to arrive. I think the total cost with shipping was around 15 bucks and they'll sell direct to you. They said thay Summit carries them but have no stock at the moment. I hope this helps ...

Re: Choosing a VR sensor

I already have the interface IC (NCV1124) and it can handle a wide variety of signal levels (when configured). What I'm asking isn't whether to use a VR or Hall Effect but what advantages are there to different VR sensors. Has someone studied this?

Choosing a VR sensor

I'm getting rid of the Delco distributor in favor of a VR sensor and trigger wheel. I've got the wheel mounted and am looking for an appropriate sensor. I was looking at the Honeywell 3030s20. Is this a good choice or should I use one with a lower peak to peak voltage? That one is rated at 190 Vp-p.

Power and Signal Grounds

Why is it that the schematics show no distinction between the power-grounds and signal grounds. This would be good to know in troubleshooting noise issues. Can someone resolve this for me?

Re: 2N222 for spare ports

I would not use it. It would better to use a darlington transistor or a MOSFET for the following reasons: In order for the transistor to stay cool, it must be switched from off to saturated. Although the small signal gain of the transistor looks fine, when you want to saturate it you should have a ...

Optimally, connect them both to the engine ground.

Re: Autometer Fullsweep Gauge

The "sensor output" of the gauge is a 0 to 5 Volt output that corresponds to the min max temperatures of your gauge faceplate. You can connect a wire from this terminal directly to the MS analog input(s). You will then have to set up the range in Megatune (sensor calibration). You don't even have to ...
