1972 chevrolet 250 I6cyl fuel injection???

Post by Earl's »

Hello, new here with a question. I have a '72 chevy 1/2 ton pick up short wheelbase fleetside pickup. It has what I think is the stock 250 I6 cyl with a monojet 1bbl carb. It runs very good. I would like to have a fuel injection system on this truck. How do I get started researching this possibility? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Start reading the Manuals. Do a forum search, there is another poster with a inline 6 cylinder Chevy. :RTFM: :RTFM: :RTFM:

One thing I would consider first is an Intake. You can get a variety from Clifford Research. I think they even make FI ones, You may also want to upgrade to an HEI distributor.

We put together a pretty in depth write up on converting a carbureted engine to EFI with things like the wiring and fuel system covered in detail:

We started with a TBI, although it's now running a Stealth Ram multiport setup.

The easiest way would be to start with what you've got for the ignition and get the fuel side of things working. That's what I did on my Dart slant six and what we did with the Nova project car. Once you want the ignition changed, you could upgrade - going to a 7 or 8 pin HEI with a locked distributor is one easy way, as is a Ford EDIS. Or you could get fancy and go crank triggered with an LS1 coil on each cylinder if you want. If you build your own it's pretty easy to rework it for almost any upgrade imaginable.
