newbie question
Read the manual to see if your question is answered there before posting. Many users will not reply if the answer is already available in the manual.
If your question is about troubleshooting, configuration, or tuning, you MUST include your processor type (MS-I or MS-II) and code version in your post. If your question is about PCB assembly or modifications, you must also include the main board version number (1.01, 2.2 or 3.0).
If you have questions about MS1/Extra or MS2/Extra code configuration or tuning, please post them at www.msextra.com Such questions posted here will be moved to: a temporary MSextra sub-forum, where they will be removed after 7 days

newbie question
I'll be retrofitting a 280zx EFI manifold onto the L28 in my 240z that's currently fueled by severely ailing SU carbs. It'll cost less to build an entire MS-based EFI setup than to get properly overhauled SU's and I'll be able to tune and tinker to my heart's content once I learn the system.
My newbie question is simple, I'm just looking for pointers on how to search for specific things like what AFM or MAF or O2 sensors or whatever else are good for my particular setup. I'm sure it's already been covered before, I just haven't found the right magic search words yet. Any pointers would be great. Thanks, everyone.
Re: newbie question
It's not common to use an AFM with MS - it has a built in MAP sensor which sort of replaces it. Needs to be connected to the main plenum - not to above the butterfly as with a dizzy. MAF is optional - most don't bother. A wideband O2 is essential IMHO for tuning. Several on the market - you need a complete setup as MS doesn't have the electronics to control a WB type, but can accept the output from an aftermarket one. I've got a Tech Edge unit and it works well.BTF/PTM wrote:Hi everyone,

As regards the other sensors - coolant, air temp, TPS - use the ones which fit your manifold. MS can be configured for pretty well any type. Same with the injectors.
If the 280 EFI system you're using as a basis to convert your carb engine has an AFM, it's likely the air temp sensor is in that. My conversion to a RV8 had the same problem, and I obtained one and fitted it to the inlet trunking.
If you can obtain a 280 EFI engine loom, that can be the basis for the MS one rather than making one up from scratch.

Re: newbie question
I plan on using a distributor to begin with to keep my learning curve a bit more manageable, I've already got an electronic unit with an MSD box so with a bit of luck I can trigger an RPM counter with it and still have a working tach. That's more stuff to research, again I'm sure it's somewhere here on the forum. Maybe a trigger wheel would be good.
Thanks again for the feedback!!
