Edis trigger wheel question

Post by freqflyer »

I have a very tight application and I want to mount the trigger wheel sensor perpendicular to the trigger wheel instead a parallel to it. I will be making the trigger wheel.

My question regards the wedge shape of the teeth of the stock edis trigger wheel. Do the teeth have to be wedge shaped or can they be square? I thought I read somewhere that variable reluctant sensors needed a 'ramp up' to give the proper sign wave. Is this true. What angle needs to be used?

If I can use a square shaped tooth, the I can cut my new wheel on a laser. If not I will have to use a machine center.

Thanks for the help.

Don't get too hung up on the exact shape of the teeth - I've seen OEMs use everything from squares to triangles, with square or slight variations being the most common. The one shape to avoid is long rectangles, which don't produce a very sharp zero crossing.
