NewBie Planning my 1st Megasquirt Need Some Advice

Post by Mopar_Mikey »

Hi All,
Thanks for letting me join this great forum! I am a new MS enthusiast but old time car guy. I have a 65 Dodge D200 with a 318 Polyspherical engine. I am currently running an old analog Holley Pro Jection TBI setup but have purchased a MS-I V3.00 board to install in my truck.
I initially plan on only running fuel to start with controlling the 2 injector Holley 670CFM throttle body.
Here is what I have now:
MSD6a for ignition Spark using the VR directly to the distributor
Mopar Electronic Distributor
Holley TBI 670CFM (similar to the GM 7.4(454) TBI without the IAC)
GM temperature sensor
Heated O2 sensor and gauge
MS-I V3.00 board
MS Relay Board
MS Relay Cable
MS Wire Bundle
The board was purchased on Craiglist so I do not know the history of it but it is a genuine B&G board and I was told it came built from DIYAutoTune. I have been doing some reading on it and it appears as the VR conditioner circuit is built with the resistor but the jumpers for the TachSelect is set to OPTOIN and the TSEL is set to OPTOOUT the IGBTOUT is set to IGN
I wanted to run the tach signal from my MSD6a tach lead to the Megasquirt tach input on the Relay Board (pin 24 on MS board) to give it the signal. Do I need to modify my MS board to do this or just run it as is? I know the VR circuit is to drive the VR circuit on the MS from the distributor but I want to set it up as simply as possible so I can learn the system a little better before complicating it further.
Would I still run my Autometer 1477 tachometer off the same tach wire off the MSD box?
Will not having an IAC complicate things? I know cold drive-ability could suffer a little.
At this point I would be controlling the advance outside of the Megasquirt. With my MS board can I actually control my advance within the Megasquirt?
Is there anything else that I may have overlooked?
Thanks in advance for any advice and patience given!

The MSD tach terminal is often a good place to get an RPM signal. Maybe if you posted a few pictures of the board, that would clarify how you've got the RPM input set up.

Here is a picture of the top and reverse side of the board. Nothing is installed on the truck yet as it's a driver and running off the Holley Pro Jection. Let me know if these will help.
Thanks!

What code are you running? You can find out with Tuner Studio. Using an LED port to drive something else means it's likely Extra code. It's best to decide early on which code you intend using and sticking to both the manual and forum for that - as they tend to do the same things in different ways.

That is not a board we built - there are several components in it, like the orange insulators, that we've never used in our kits or assembled units. I think this one probably originated from Glen's Garage. That input circuit should take a signal from the MSD tach out.
