CDI tach signal pickup for yamaha yz125 dirtbike.

Post by 4cefedtiburon »

Im thinking of playing around with fuel injecting my 2001 yz 125 dirtbike. The bike uses a cdi ignition and I have a stator/windings (alternator) capable of about 4-5amps would this be capable of running a small fuel pump and the ms with all sensors? anyway to the real root of the question is it possible to pick up a tach signal from a CDI ignition? I currently have an ms on my car and was just wanting to see what else i could do. Any info would be great.

I am just getting ready to fire up something with an RM250 ignition fitted. The VR sensor works fine with the V3 input circuit, the one with the 2 adjustable resistors in it, it doesn't even seem bothered about polarity. I'm cranking it with a drill at the moment to verify everything works as it should. I guess your YZ will be the same. I have other bike ignitions (Japanese MX & road race) around and they are all pretty much the same - fixed VR and a pickup on the flywheel. The only thing to watch is the stator can be high voltage to fire the CDI directly (300v) so an ordinary regulator won't work. 4-5 amps may not be quite enough. I'm planning to run a battery + alternator and re-charge the battery between runs.

Guy.
