i have a 1984 mercury cougar with CFI. 3.8 v6

i know very little about the ECM and the rest of the fuel injection system with this car. but recently i tore down the engine for a basic rebuild. i hooked all the wires back up and put everthing back were it came from. all is working fine except that it doesn't seem to be getting fuel. i am getting fuel up to the throttle body but the injectors don't seem to be squirting. none of my fuses are blown and everything seem to connect well

my main question is do i have to reset the ECM to get my injectors working?

i haven't checked them to see if they are getting voltage yet since i didn't have anything to check with.

So let me get this straight.

You have the stock OEM EEC-IV CFI injection system.

When you turn on the key does the fuel pump prime for a few seconds then turn off?

Are you sure you hooked up all of the CFI connectors?

You need the distributer hooked up.

You can use a 12V light bulb to check for power at the injectors, with the key on you should have voltage at one of the terminals. If you hook the light to the other terminal and crank the engine you should see the light blink.

As long as everything is connected and powered up the ECU will pulse your injectors when the engine turns over.

and thanks for the reply. i must have a bad connection, something not grounded or something plugged in wrong. i have a test light, i just didn't have it when i went home for thanksgiving. hopefully i can a running car for christmas

IIRC, There is a ground connection from the harness directly to the engine and a ground strap that must be installed from the back of the engine to the firewall.
