I am currently converting a 1966 Chevrolet straight 6 (230ci, 3.8L) to efi with mega squirt. Currently i am searching for a suitable throttle body. Anyone have some suggestions? (i plan on making about 280-350 hp)

something with an IAC controller would be nice to.

Thanks
-Matt

A lot depends on what you're working with. Port or throttle body injection? Custom or carbureted manifold? In either case - baseplate pattern? Nitrous (dry or wet) or boosted?

i plan on doing port injection. N/A, and i am making a custom intake manifold out of aluminum (large plenum with 3 runners to the intake ports, and a throttle body on the front)

i was looking around on ebay and found some LT1 throttle bodies. think those could work?

It would make a good starting line, as there are larger versions available if the required flow exceeds the stock flow. As a rule-of-thumb, dual 48mm bores will support HP in the hight 200's, dual 52mm in the low 300 range and a single 80mm in the high 300's. If you get it running on a stock TB, and your max kPa is 95-98 or higher (sea level), you're fine. 95 or lower, you are starving the engine of air. Try it and see what you really need before spending money you may not have to.

An LT1 throttle body ought to work well. I'm using a Ford 4.6 throttle body on my Mopar slant six.

Hi!

My dual 58mm on my car flows just under 1000 cfm (we tested it). LT1 motors made more HP from the factory than your goal with the 48 mms. It's going to be easier to use a GM part for parts avaiabilty and compatability with megasquirt. Maybe less fabrication, too, depending your transmission. If it's a manual shift, you don't need to worry about that, but the LT1 TB works well with a turbo 350 or GM overdrive.

hope I helped, and good luck!
